A reminder from 30 years ago what happens when you build up land mass using dirt and gravel with no appreciable bedrock underneath:

I'm thinking Safeco Field (Mariners) and CenturyLink Field (Seahawks) in Seattle. Both are built on or near old tide flats and landfill, and I would think that land would be very unstable in a major quake.

We have an area by our marina that has been a field forever. It’s mainly from backfill. They recently started build a huge apartment complex on it. I can’t believe they got permission. Oceanfront property money overcame common sense.
