The thing is that the laws were already in place with Cruz to prevent this with the multiple police reports, death threats, and reports to the FBI, yet this shooting is being used as an impetus to change laws.
Raising the age to 21? I don’t think it will make much difference. Our worst mass shootings were either people over 21 or people who stole their guns from someone else. Also, assault rifles tend to be used in a small percentage of crimes. Shotguns aren’t banned, right? The Navy Yard shooter used a sawed off shotgun.
Three day waiting period? Stupid because a mass shooter would be able to wait three days. It doesn’t seem like it would make a difference at all considering these people are sadistic and spend time planning these things.
Bump stocks? I don’t care if they ban those at all, but obviously that was not relevant in the Florida shooting.
“The thing is that the laws were already in place with Cruz to prevent this...”
Was anyone ever able to corral Scott, hold him in place, and ask him about the above, and then demand that he respond to it?
Bump stocks are really only effective in very, very specific conditions.
And thats part of the reason that the people need versatile weapons for defense: the attacker gets to choose what they bring, as well as the circumstances of the attack, and can plan around any restrictions or limitations. A defender has to deal with only whatever they can grab quickly.
