Barry Johnson ousted two-term incumbent Abel Reyna as McLennan County district attorney, in a contentious race played out under the dark specter of the 2015 Twin Peaks shootout.
Johnson, 61, who practiced personal injury law in Dallas for 30 years before moving back to McLennan County last year, got 10,347 votes for 59.9 percent of the vote to Reynas 6,930 for 40.1 percent.
Johnson is a Waco native and son of Judge Joe N. Johnson, who served as justice of the peace for 24 years and judge of Wacos 170th State District Court for 24 years. Johnson promised to serve with the same integrity as his father and to immediately review the more than 120 pending cases that remain from the Twin Peaks shootout that left nine bikers dead and dozens injured.

Good.

I kind of expected this. Not everyone in Waco is demented . . .
Its home to the stars of HGTV’s hit show, Fixer-Upper - Chip and Joanna Gaines.
They are a very talented couple, as my wife often reminds me.
“Its home to the stars of HGTVs hit show, Fixer-Upper - Chip and Joanna Gaines”
We enjoy their show. Chip goes over the top a bit too much, but the family seems to be genuine good people. They decided to cancel the series and Joanna is having another Baby. But they have really branched out the brand with a furniture line and a new Restaurant. They won’t go hungry.
Their kids, all of them are awesome. Momma and Pappa know how to raise ‘em!!! Love that show!!!
YAY!!!!!!!!!
So what is next? My bet remaining charges get thrown out. Eventually some politician will pretend to want to know what happened. Investigation begins, Congressional Committee. Takes 7 years. A couple Barney Fifes get wrist slap.
Texas Gator Mourns Loss of Dear Friend
Is what the headline should read.
She hasn’t posted on this topic since S6 rode the lightning.
“..pledged to review the more than 120 pending cases that remain from the Twin Peaks shootout...”
Out of 120, a few of the survivors might have actually done something. But an investigation of what happened on the government side — from before the incident to the mass arrests and indiscriminate charges to courtroom misconduct — is in order.
What does the gay guy and his 1/2 mg from a psychotic break shrew have to do with anything? Did they endorse Johnson or something?
However they might feel about state or national politics, the focus of many local Election Day voters was squarely on the McLennan County district attorney’s race, at least judging from interviews at voting centers. And given the convoluted Twin Peaks saga — case dismissals here and there, recusal hearings to and fro, all amid incendiary, back-and-forth campaign volleys — some voters were understandably overwhelmed by it all.
Example: Some voters arriving at polls Tuesday morning were still digesting a Page One story in the Trib about a visiting judge admonishing District Attorney Abel Reyna for using a Twin Peaks biker defendant’s picture and pending case in his re-election campaign materials. “The way you have handled this case is absolutely shameful and misleading to the citizens of this county,” Judge Doug Shaver angrily told the embattled DA Monday.
Even for a longtime voter such as 73-year-old Franklin Potts, associate professor of finance, insurance and real estate at Baylor University, the spectacle was jarring: “It’s pretty rare when a judge dresses down a district attorney like that in court.”
I knew someone on the jury [of the first and only Twin Peaks trial]. That was a hung jury. And now I know theyre dismissing Twin Peaks cases, which makes me wonder why they didnt do that in the first place. That sure was a bunch of arrests.
Basically even people who don't follow news (let alone politics) finally notice the liability sword of Damocles looming over ZimbabWaco.
Astounding. It will be interesting to see how things play out now.
These people are checking their wallets.
Read this last night but waiting for details, Thanks Pray there is Justice done in this place because has been a joke for almost 3 years, because some hotshot DA wanted to make a name for himself, and he did but not how he planned. Many people suffered because some wanted to show these bikers how to rumble. Wonder where Red Boots ended up.
