I had friends at church who are American citizens on a business assignment to South Africa. Red haired, fair skinned Scots. Both of their children were born while in South Africa. When the kids went to college, they attempted to join an "African American" organization. Unlike most, they were actually born there. They were rejected. It wasn't for African Americans. It was only for people with black skin.

I knew a girl in college who's father was an Egyptian Christian. Egypt is in Africa. I suggested to her that she list herself as African American, but she never did.
