“I can’t believe I spent the better part of 8 years defending this asshat.”

We all did. Everyone on Free Republic put him up on a pedestal and loved him big time as President. Wow.....we were really stupid.

Some of us began to see the light after he made that sharp left turn after the 2004 election. That was when he really started pushing for amnesty, etc. Some of us were pointing out that the economy was starting to collapse during his presidency. The stalwarts were blaming Clinton, not Bush, even in 2006-2008. They ignored the bailouts that started under GW.

But, some of us had fun rattling the chains of the bushbots. Just the mear posting the term 'bushbot' sent them into hysterics -- resembling those of the Dembots/Obamabots/Hillarybots of today.

When he started talking amnesty, the indomitable DC Chapter of Free Republic went down to the RNC headquarters on Capitol Hill and freeped the daylights out of him for half a day— post-hole diggers with signs about building a fence, signs that said "Dubya, quit ALIENating your base", "Gringo de Mexico" signs, bullhorn—the works. The building has a lot of windows on the front; RNC employees were looking from every window at the FReep, astonished and taking photos with their cell phones. Wish I could find the AAR thread.

My point being, this is the same DC Chapter that stood out in front of Walter Reed defending our troops from Bush-hating lefties for all the years of his ill-executed sorties into Afghanistan and Iraq. DCC was very supportive of him, but didn't accept all of his boneheaded moves wholesale.
