...treat our farmers much better. Highly restrictive. Mexico must do much more on stopping drugs from pouring into the U.S. They have not done what needs to be done. Millions of people addicted and dying.

“Mexico must do much more on stopping drugs from pouring into the U.S. They have not done what needs to be done. “

Mexico is not a nation like the US. It is a collection of various organized gangs and groups living among civilized civilians. The civilians provide the services and they are also the means that the gangs survive. After a hard day of exporting drugs, raping and pillaging, it’s great to go eat in a restaurant and relax in a movie theater. The government, which is highly visible in the guise of the police and the army, is little better than the gangs. Corruption is rampant.

Blaming the Mexican government for the situation with drugs in the United States is like blaming a two-year-old for not knowing how to act at a formal dinner. It isn’t capable of doing the things we need it to do.

Old Ross Perot nailed it .
The sucking sound of American jobs going to Canada and Mexico thanks to NAFTA was so true .

I see no reason whatsoever for us to have any kind of special agreement with Mexico, our enemy in every way except militarily. If fact,I'd love to see our southern border sealed so tight that *no* person and *no* product can get trough.I'm willing to pay more for my avocados and washing machines.

Canada,OTOH,is a civilized, advanced and friendly country with whom we should have a comprehensive and mutually beneficial trading relationship. If the current agreement we have with Canada needs "fine tuning" that's fine with me.But unless I'm missing something there's no need for a wholesale change in our current agreement.

And,of course,Canada has the right to reach a bilateral agreement with Mexico if she so chooses.

NAFTA also promotes overseas slave labor, not that liberals care.

Canada is a resource-rich country with a population the size of California living on a land mass larger than the U.S. Exactly how big a market is it anyway? This is the kind of country where I’d EXPECT the U.S. to have a trade deficit.

I expect to have trade surplus with every single country on earth. What a loser you are.

I just read your tagline.

I choose to respectfully disagree. I am from Texas, Dallas, and I remember LBJ and Ladybird. Not only were they more corrupt, but infinitely smarter than Obama and Hillary.

NAFTA basically outlawed the state-run industries that were common in both Canada and Mexico before it was signed. That may not sound like a big deal, but it had enormous implications in the energy sector. By the late 1990s, both countries surpassed Saudi Arabia as the largest foreign suppliers of crude oil to the U.S.

Trudeau the Younger can handle this. Watch him speak out and spank the Americans on trade:

We are doomed.

One of the two political party’s will have to start representing the will of the people. Apparently the Republican are fighting the people’s wishes every step of the way.

You expect to have a trade surplus with Antarctica where the only customers are penguins. I can’t help you fix your delusions.

I have always thought that bringing Mexico into NAFTA was a huge mistake. It sucked American jobs and did nothing for Canada. Previous to NAFTA, Canada and the US had a free trade agreement that was humming along nicely. NAFTA only went sideways when Mexico was brought in.

The only people who benefited from Mexico coming in were multinationals who could set up factories in Mexico to take advantage of cheap labor and those in the US who benefit from cheap, unskilled, illegal Mexican labor.

I just hope Trudeau is not so stupid that he would tie Canada's future to Mexican participation in NAFTA. Although, I'm not sure about that:

We definitely need to kill NAFTA completely. Numerous countries launder their products through Canada and Mexico, to skirt import taxes. China is the main one, but many other countries do it also. Makes it very hard to trace the actual origins. Canada and Mexico take their cut and want it to keep going.

Any dispute, they gang up on the US. 2 against 1. It’s how it’s structured.

NAFTA is hopeless and can’t be fixed.

The Chamber of Commerce is all in on stopping Trump on this and tarrifs. Their bought politicians are screaming, on cue. See Linda for latest unhinged example.

Here's a perfect example of what drives a trade deficit with Canada:

The state government of New York is hell-bent on shutting down its nuclear power plants. The Shorham plant on Long Island was decommissioned before it generated a single megawatt of electricity. Indian Point in the Hudson River valley is going to be next.

At the same time, they're also working to kill every pipeline project in the works that would transport natural gas from the Marcellus shale deposits of Pennsylvania into New York and New England.

Does this mean they're going to be turning off the lights in New York City and reverting back to the days when the Dutch bought the place from the Indians for $24 worth of trinkets? NO. What's happening is that Hydro Quebec is supplanting domestic power plants as the largest sources of electric power for New York.

This isn't unfair trade practices driving a trade deficit. It's f#cking stupidity right here in the U.S. And yet here you are posting messages on FreeRepublic, acting as if Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Marxist government of New York is somehow a victim here.

It’s been a good deal for the USA, it’s been a bad deal for some industrial sectors in some parts of the USA. Reversing it, however, would not revive those sectors. The circus has left town.
