President Trump pushed back Wednesday against a GOP lawmaker's proposal to attach a concealed carry measure to background checks legislation, saying it would never pass.
Rep. Steve Scalise (La.), the No. 3 House Republican and a lawmaker who was gravely wounded in a shooting just last summer, offered the proposal at a White House meeting between Trump and lawmakers from both parties that was aired live on cable television.
He suggested adding the concealed carry measure, which would allow permits for concealed weapons to cross state lines, to a background check bill known as the Fix NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) Act.
The House already approved such a measure, but Democrats in the Senate have blocked it and Trump seemed versed in that political reality.
"I think that maybe that bill will someday pass but it should pass as a separate bill, Trump replied to Scalise.
"If you're going to put concealed carry between states into this bill, we're talking about a whole new ballgame. And you know Im with you but let it be a separate bill, he continued.
You'll never get this passed if you add concealed carry to this, youll never get it passed.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) who was seated next to Scalise, had a slight smile and glanced around at other lawmakers at the table during the exchange. Scalise continued to look at Trump.

If that ain’t a signal to tamp down on second amendment, then I don’t know what is. And does anyone think National Reciprocity will go anywhere beyond being a tool to raise money?

She thinks, again, that she has Trump figured out.
She is wrong.

I thought the Republicans won and I thought Trump was a Republican. Silly me.

Privately purchased guns were not used in any of these shootings, to my knowledge, so I don’t know what the president is saying here.

No, just the only grown up in the room.
The American People are NOT going to accept the usual “do nothing” dogmas anymore. Both sides are going to have to accept SOME reasonable compromises or you are going to get something much worse pushed down your throats in the name of “doing something” when the voters turn the government over to the Dems out of disgust with the do nothings.

We have background checks now. We have had them since 1993.
At some point you all are going to have to grow up. Your knee jerk “Do nothing” dogmas are not going to fly with voters any more.

So, what are the "reasonable compromises" for an Inalienable God-Given right that "shall not be infringed?"

Gun control (which most don’t want) is the issue that was going to keep the House and Senate in GOP hands, and Trump as President.
This looks like political suicide.
To: Reno89519
President trump also said he would accept any DACA proposal.
And of course he refused the very first proposal, and with prejudice.
It’s like some Freepers are without a memory card.

17 died because 49 complaints about a psycho with a gun threatening others were disregarded. Threatening with a gun is a crime. He should have been in prison.

but Democrats in the Senate have blocked it
Close, McConnell Blocked it by allowing the demonrats to run the show still.

Reasonable compromise? Consider this, you have a constitutional right that varies from where you stand here in the U.S. Infringed is an understatement. Okay, consider further.
- You enter a gun free zone, most do not have armed people ready to take over from you being responsible. You are unarmed among other unarmed people...
- You go anywhere else, say unarmed...
- In both cases, someone else with a gun, machete, know, steel pipe, acid, whatever, who does care about the law, who is bent on maming or killing people.
- They start their rampage.
- Oh, dear, call the police.
- On average, 8-10 minutes later they show up.
- Do they intervene or standby and observe? A real question--not only has supreme court said they are not obligated to, but management might say wait one, or they might be cowards.
- And medical personal to help you, if you are still alive? Don't bet on it. We've seen more than once that they are kept out by police while people bleed to death.
- Eight to 10 minutes, by itself, is a very long time. Most people can unload a 30 round magazine in 20-25 seconds, reload and resume. A pistol, not much different. Either way, that is a lot of bullets.
- And what if the shooter has no plan to die? They stop at five minutes. Still an awful lot of shots fired. And they are 3-5 minutes down the road before the police even arrive.
- Unless someone has a death wish, we need our guns, need CCW, need National Reciprocity.
- And what else? Well, yes, tighten up NICS checks. Prosecute people that lie to try to buy guns. ENFORCE THE EXISTING LAWS!
- Ban guns altogether? Has that helped where attempted? Require 21 years? What about those in the military, what does that say about our trust in them? Or, for that matter any 18 year old's constitutional rights? Punish everyone for a few bad people? No. Somewhere in other settings that is a war crime.
