Turkish propagandists also have been twisting facts to try to portray Greece as the aggressor.
-
Although Turkey knows that the islands are legally and historically Greek, Turkish authorities want to occupy and Turkify them, presumably to further the campaign of annihilating the Greeks, as they did in Anatolia from 1914 to 1923 and after.
-
Any attack against Greece should be treated as an attack against the West.
There is one issue on which Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and its main opposition, the Republican People's Party (CHP), are in complete agreement: The conviction that the Greek islands are occupied Turkish territory and must be reconquered. So strong is this determination that the leaders of both parties have openly threatened to invade the Aegean.
The only conflict on this issue between the two parties is in competing to prove which is more powerful and patriotic, and which possesses the courage to carry out the threat against Greece. While the CHP is accusing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's AKP party of enabling Greece to occupy Turkish lands, the AKP is attacking the CHP, Turkey's founding party, for allowing Greece to take the islands through the 1924 Treaty of Lausanne, the 1932 Turkish-Italian Agreements, and the 1947 Paris Treaty, which recognized the islands of the Aegean as Greek territory.

Erdogan the Islamist?
Continually threatening, insulting, attacking, lying, twisting reality, and Turkey is no longer governed by the Rule of Law.
Adalet (Justice) does not exist in Turkey.
Will Turkey remain a NATO member.
Would they invade Cyprus again? Yes, if they thought they could get away with it.
And Turkey has attacked Efrin under the same mindset in Syria for over a month.
Erdogan really believes he is "chosen" to resurrect and rule the Ottoman Empire.

A lot to this situation is about oil and gas reserves off the eastern coast of Cyprus. Turkey doesn’t want anyone getting into this, unless they get a cut. Cyprus has a deal going for themselves only.

And as with all Moslems, he believes that any territory that the Saracens have ruled at any time in the past is rightfully Islamic and must be reclaimed for Islam. For the Neo Ottomans that includes most of the Mediterranean islands and Southern Italy , Spain, part of France and most of the Balkans.

What happens under the NATO treaty if one member attacks another?
If Turkey attacks Greece, we should back Greece and back independence for the Kurdish regions of Turkey.
To: arthurus
Yes, and Erdogan has consulted Hitler’s play book and is acting totally according to the instructions.
It will yield the same result that Hitler got. If Erdogan is not removed.
I kept thinking the Kemalists would oppose him, but it does not look like that is going to happen.

Well, Turkey long ago invaded Greece. Nothing happened then.
We shall see how far President Trump lets this ride.

Greece and Turkey are both NATO members. An attack by one NATO member on another member state is unprecedented and will invoke a crisis since Article 5 obliges every NATO country to repel the attack.
So, if Turkey attacks Greece, NATO will be at war with a signatory state.
