KANSAS CITY, Mo. Kansas City Mayor Sly James is moving in fast to try and lure Delta Airlines to moving its headquarters to our city.
Delta is in the middle of a little bit of a squabble with Republicans in Georgia. Delta pulled its discount program for NRA members to attend their annual meetings and is asking the gun rights group to remove any references to its airline from its website.
Some Republicans say Delta's move is an attack on conservatives. Georgia's Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle tweeted his disapproval and says he will use his power to kill any tax legislation that benefits Delta.
According to NBC News, Delta is close to convincing Georgia lawmakers to restore a $50 million sales tax exemption on jet fuel. With Delta being headquartered in Atlanta, Delta would be the prime beneficiary of the tax cut.
Here comes Kansas City Mayor Sly James. He tweeted today his interest in having Delta move its headquarters right here to the middle of the country.
The mayor used the new KCI terminal as bait to lure Delta to make the move. Plus pointed out the fact that Kansas City is smack dab in the middle of the country, which could be a bonus for the airlines.
The company building the new terminal, Edgemoor, says they are on schedule to break ground in the fall and have the terminal completed by 2021.

Atlanta’s airport is the world’s busiest.
A nice gesture, but Delta will never leave Atlanta.
Kansas. Twisters. Don’t play well with aircraft.
I understand there are plans to fix the problems, but they would require a lot of reconstruction. Not sure if they've found the funding to do it.
Even with almost no flights, KCI has the worst terminal set up in the country. They could have spent a few million 15 years ago to greatly improve the situation, but not enough money appeared to be ending up in the right pockets, so nothing was done. They’ve talked about a new terminal for years (the one completely empty and two underused apparently not providing enough capacity) but there’s been no substantive construction.
Kansas City is an awful airport, at least an hour from anywhere.
Doesn’t matter where they locate. I won’t fly Delta.
Actually, MCI
But how many airports have hubbed as many airlines as Kansas City? Braniff and New Braniff, TWA, Vanguard, Eastern. Would those airlines be what they are today without having hubbed at MCI?
KC has one of the worst crime/murder rates in the country. worse than chicago, FFS. atlanta is no dreamscape, but it makes f*cking KC look like paradise.
oh, and that mayor is a jackass.
IIRC it won’t be ‘reconstruction’ but a whole new airport.
... and speaking of funding, this article shows that giving money to liberal areas - whether it lifts the areas or not - definitely subsidizes liberalism.
Do you have any links to back up that claim?
yup, thought so
St Louis already has an empty terminal AND an extra runway...what a waste of money
there is this web page. you type things in, and it searches the Internet for them. I did that. Why don’t you?
(jesus, it’s annoying when people think that they can demand that you do their homework for them)
Even with almost no flights, KCI has the worst terminal set up in the country.
Only because of 9/11 and the TSA security procedures. I lived in KC back in the mid 90s and flew in and out of MCI lot of times. Back then, it was the perfect design. Quick access to your gate right off the curb. Parking is close, and lots of open freeway to get there. The TSA security checkpoints make MCI horrible. Nothing short of a complete tear down can fix it.
I go through MCI enough. The TSA situation isn’t that bad. I don’t think I’ve spent more than 5 minutes at the MCI TSA Checkpoints.
There must be a way to fix the checkpoints without the need for a new airport terminal.
Thats what Delta needs.....more snow and cold.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
