These arguments defy the movement to harden the target of a school building.
No one ever said all teachers should be trained in fire arms. Nor have they said defense ought to be laid upon the teachers - it could be retired military men.

Handgun (slow) bullets have about 1/3 of the kinetic energy of “assault rifle” (fast) bullets. Finicky detail, probably reminding you of something you already know: Handgun (slow) bullets have about 1/3 of the velocity of “assault rifle” (fast) bullets, so they have about 1/9 of the kinetic energy of an “assault rifle” (fast) bullet of the same weight. E=0.5*m*v^2
My .45 has a 900 fps muzzle velocity, while my .308 is 2700 fps (and interestingly, the .45 and .308 have almost exactly the same weight bullets, for the ammo I shot most recently from each).
