President Trump Talks Guns
Rush Limbaugh.com ^ | February 26, 2018 | Rush Limbaugh

RUSH: I want to play some sound bites of President Trump today with the nation’s governors at a working business session with them at the White House. And we have three bites. And in the first one, here is the president saying that if Congress doesn’t ban bump stocks, then he will.

THE PRESIDENT: Bump stocks, we’re writing that out, I’m writing that out myself. I don’t care if Congress does it or not. I’m writing it out myself, okay? (applause) You put it into the machine gun category, which is what it is, it becomes essentially a machine gun and nobody’s gonna be able to — it’s gonna be very hard to get ’em. So we’re writing out bump stocks.

RUSH: There you go. Is that how we do it here, the president just writes it out? “If Congress doesn’t do it, then I’m gonna do it. I’m just gonna write ’em out.” I know. It worked for Obama. I mean, there were some objections to it from quarters like this one when it happens. But this is, hey, Congress, you’re not gonna do it, I’m gonna do it. Well, hey, why don’t we do that with DACA? At least that’s unconstitutional? Why are we worried about the courts? Why don’t we just end it?

It’s unconstitutional to begin with because of Obama. The whole DACA thing is unconstitutional. We don’t need to wait for a court to say so! We know it! It is! But that March 5th deadline that’s gonna come and go with nothing done on it because the Supreme Court refused to hear the Trump administration’s request to strike it down. The Supreme Court said we’re not gonna do anything on that ’til it’s gotten to a lower court. We’re not gonna leap frog the appellate levels here.

So that’s being reported as Supreme Court tells Trump to pound sand on DACA. The Supreme Court did not issue a ruling on DACA up or down. They just said that it’s too early for them to take the case. Next is the president commenting on the performance of the deputies, deputy sheriffs in Broward County.

THE PRESIDENT: We have to take steps to harden our schools so that they’re less vulnerable to attack. This includes allowing well trained and certified school personnel to carry concealed firearms. At some point, you need volume. I don’t know that a school is gonna be able to hire a hundred security guards that are armed. Plus, you know, I got to watch some deputy sheriffs performing this weekend. They weren’t exactly Medal of Honor winners. The way they performed was, frankly, disgusting. The way they performed was really a disgrace.

RUSH: It’s a disgusting disgrace, was what it was. Somebody needs to tell Trump about the PROMISE Program and really set him off, when he finds out that money is being paid for this kind of lax behavior. In fact, maybe that’s the way to do concealed carry. Pay the schools for everybody they hire. If that’s the way we do it, the federal government reimbursing everybody for what policies they want implemented. Finally, Trump said he had lunch with Wayne LaPierre and the NRA and told them that they’re gonna do something, too.

THE PRESIDENT: I had lunch with Wayne LaPierre, Chris Cox, and David Lehman of the NRA. And I want to tell you, they want to do something. I said, “Fellas, we gotta something. It’s too long now, and we gotta do something.” And we’re gonna do very strong background checks, very strong. Gotta do background checks. If we see a sicko, I don’t want ’em having a gun. I said, “Fellows, we can’t do it anymore.” And there’s no bigger fan of the Second Amendment than me, there’s no bigger fan of the NRA. And these guys are great patriots. They’re great people. And they want to do something. They’re gonna do something. And they’re gonna do it, I think, quickly.

RUSH: (laughing) It sure as hell sounds like they’re gonna do something whether they know it or not. They’re gonna do something, they’re gonna do it quickly. We’re gonna have the greatest background checks in the world, greatest background checks ever. Somebody needs to tell the president why some of these perps are not in the background check system. And that would be the Obama-Eric Holder PROMISE Program.

He told the NRA that they’re gonna do something. What is this, we gotta something? See, this is what happens. We gotta something. We gotta something. We don’t have to do something. You know, all of this pointing fingers the NRA, it’s the easy way out, it doesn’t accomplish anything. The NRA is not responsible here. This is so obviously, crassly politicized now. And this is another thing about our society that really bothers me.

People have been conditioned to demand and support so-called changes that do something that don’t do anything. There weren’t any bump stocks used in this incident in Florida, so getting rid of bump stocks, fine and dandy, it isn’t gonna change what happened down there. And there’s nothing the NRA could do that would have changed what happened in Florida. They had nothing to do with it.

And there are so many other gun crimes and incidents that are ignored totally, like you dare not bring up Chicago. You better not. You better not bring up Chicago. You can’t compare. Why? “Well, well, for one thing, they aren’t using AR-15s.” See? It’s all so situational, it’s all tailored to people’s emotions, and goes back to this whole idea that government doesn’t do very much very well, and when they screw it up, we then stupidly turn to government and say, “Fix it.”

Like some guy designs an airplane that won’t fly. Would we turn to him and say, “Fix it”? No. We’d go find somebody who knows how to design one and use him or her, whoever it might be. Okay, well, that’s that. I just wanted you to hear — the president obviously has seen the internal polling. The internal polling on this must be bad, wouldn’t you say, Mr. Snerdley?

The internal polling on this, the push polling, the Twitter bots, it must be so bad that everybody in public life is finding the nearest camera and the nearest microphone and apparently the focus groups are saying, “Just say you’ll do something. Just say we’ve gotta do something and that we’re gonna do something, and you’re covered.”

Why doesn’t Trump say that about the wall?

The funny part about all this; is that we all realize DJT WOULD have charged the shooter and taken him down.

Reminds me of Czar Alexander I chasing down a would be killer and capturing him - all solo

And we’re gonna do very strong background checks, very strong.

Cruz passed a background check. Know why? Because no one put the truth in the system: The Promise policy didn't allow it.

Maybe, but he’s venturing into dangerous territory in two ways; alienating gun owners and disregarding that neither he, the Justice Department, or the ATF can make law.

Dear Mr. President, recall the following:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of presidential of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the constitution of the United States”

Shall not be infringed, sir, shall not be infringed.

This but another step in the slippery slope that will not end will for those who love liberty.

Keep in mind that all these people playing around with our rights will themselves have armed protection for life. It was the same with the ACA. They have no skin in the game!

Remember when he was riding in his car and saw a mugging happening on the sidewalk? He had his driver stop, and DJT got out and took on the mugger.

There are cheaper ways to waste ammo than buying a bump-stock.

Google it or search on YouTube -- you can bump-fire a rifle and waste all the ammo you want with a rubber band.

I don't think Trump understands how it works, nor does anyone around him. (Not enough rednecks who never grew up work in the Trump White House!)

(Yes, I'm 66 and I never grew up. I might or might not be a redneck.)

Lol.... they did. How many debt deals with chuck n Nancy with no wall funding? Sounds like kabuki and now guess what. A NY liberal is talking about infringement on 2A. I believe he will get a 2A infringement before every inch of the wall is complete.

Well, I’m sure all the Lib Rats will sing a different tune about Trump once he capitulates on the 2A and his base and shows how “reasonable” he can be. Remember how kind they were to Bush after No Child Left Behind?

Blah blah blah. After getting proven wrong about your breathless declarations that DJT has betrayed us... what, a dozen times by now, no one cares any more.

Go back to your lover Beck.

I dunno; looking at his body language, I’m not so sure that he really is into the background check thing.

Seems to me to be realpolitik more than anything. Say something ‘nice’ that a lot of people agree with and a lot of people don’t, and then leave it to the state governments to hash out.

Nothing changes and he gets his chance to look reasonable.

***

One thing I’ve learned about Trump is that you have to look at what he says, and then look at what he does.

He tends to say something distracting and outrageous that gets a lot of people hot and bothered, and then he works quietly behind the scenes to get what he really wants.

Ultimately, the ‘outrageous’ statement is either dialed back or forgotten, when what he really wanted to get done has already happened.

If you’re that worried, though, YOU do something to change it.

Remember when that DACA meeting happened and everyone was howling about ‘HE’LL JUST SIGN ANYTHING! BETRAAAAYAAAALLL!’

And then nothing happened, except Trump came out of it looking like the statesman and the Dems came out looking like a bunch of crying children and hypocrites?

Like most politicians, Trump has no idea about firearms, furthermore, he should stay out of the weeds on this issue.

There is talk of raising the age to buy a rifle to 21. I bought ammo at 14, now one has to be 21 to buy that same ammo.I bought my first rifle at 17.
The shooter at Aztec NM was 21.

Re: “Bump stocks. I don’t care if Congress does it or not. I’m writing it out myself, okay?”

Too bad Trump doesn't feel the same passion about DACA.

Trump could have written out DACA 13 months ago.

Here's the Executive Order that would have ended it:

“Based on the exact language in the Immigration Act of 1965, the DACA kids are unlawfully present in the USA. Therefore, I order the Secretary of Homeland Security to remove them.”

Unfortunately, Trump wants to give Amnesty to the DACAs, so he will never “write out” the DACAs.

My exact thoughts - all of what you said.

Trump (as a negotiator) wanted to use DACA as the critical leverage to get the wall funding, end the VISA lottery and end chain migration.

The corrupt courts ruined his plan, and now it has backfired.

Also, I am totally against "banning" this or that gun accoutrement like a frickin stock. It is ridiculous. We have people who have been thrown into prison (and are still in prison) because they "possessed" a gun magazine that holds too many rounds for whatever corrupt state legislator and Governor decided is the "correct" magazine size.

So a person's life is ruined because they had a stamped piece of sheet metal or plastic with a spring in it.

I think he did say he would sign whatever the group, who he repeatedly said he knew and respected, came up with. Even if he didn’t ‘love everything in it’. That’s what made people nervous.

See, some of us are used to DJT saying what he means, and meaning what he says. You know, a no-BS kind of guy.

Frankly, we don’t need another President, we need “The Donald”.
