Legal vs illegal is not the most important distinction.

Third world vs first world is more important.

Most hispanic immigrants are legal. Yet they are, collectively, poison. Every state that has enough of them has gone over, forever, to the Democrat column of the Electoral College. With almost 40 years of hindsight, we can say that Reagan was mostly wrong on this issue. He was wrong to sign the 1986 amnesty, and he didn’t appreciate just how divisive and corrosive it would be over time to flood the nation with foreign migrants. It has had a disastrous effect on national cohesion. Part of being a conservative is to conserve policies that work and discard failed experiments. Mass-immigration is a failed experiment, and unless it is reined it, the future will be rather grim for “America” as a coherent nation.
