MSNBC: Handguns Are Too Slow To Stop A School Shooter
daily caller ^ | 2-23-18 | Amber Athey

Posted on 02/23/2018 7:44:14 PM PST by doug from upland

MSNBC anchors are claiming that teachers armed with handguns would be unable to stop a school shooter because rifles shoot “three times faster.”

Anchor Lawrence O’Donnell said on his show Thursday night that “a bullet fired from an AR-15 travels 3x faster than one from a handgun…and yet the president and the NRA think giving teachers guns will stop a school shooter.”

MSNBC ✔ @MSNBC Lawrence: A bullet fired from an AR-15 travels 3x faster than one from a handgun.

And yet the president and the NRA think giving teachers guns will stop a school shooter

Stephanie Ruhle similarly asked, “How does the best marksman in the world with a handgun take down a shooter with an AR-15 (bullets travel 3x faster).”

Stephanie Ruhle ✔ @SRuhle Also remember that Reagan was surrounded by the secret service in 1981...yet, he was shot. How will teachers with guns protect students? How does the best marksman in the world with a handgun take down a shooter with an AR-15 (bullets travel 3x faster)

While bullets fired from rifles do travel faster than those fired by handguns, the difference comes down to a matter of milliseconds, which would be negligible in any confrontation with a shooter. In close range situations, the difference in bullet velocity matters even less.

The pair also seemingly failed to consider why handguns are standard issue weapons for police officers.

A number of Twitter users pointed out the stupidity of O’Donnell and Ruhle’s claims.

aThirdOfDuane @aThirdOfDuane Replying to @MSNBC It would seem that drug-testing isn’t a thing at MSNBC

Simple solution. Close the schools.

I understand what you mean and I agree. I propose a variant of "close the schools" you advocate and that is to keep the outside doors to the building(s)locked and accessible only to those with properly coded key card..........

Stands to reason that if the perp can't get in (s)he won't have easy targets.

“So many TV talking heads are so ignorant about guns; what else are they so ignorant about?”

And remember someone even more ignorant is writing this stuff for them to read.

“Deputies standing safely outside of the school are even slower!!!”

The four Broward cops weren’t just standing safely outside. They were hiding behind a vehicle. Then the police from a neighboring town showed up and the Broward guys said, “You can go in.” Like, “I’ll hold your coat.”

Meanwhile, a ROTC boy and unarmed teachers were taking bullets, giving their lives, to save children.

It sounds like the Broward Sheriff’s Department is a social club, and nothing else. I guess Israel was handing out cushy, high-paying positions to his friends, too. If the citizens, especially parents of students, don’t hit him with a class action suit, they’re idiots. And I mean sue him PERSONALLY; none of this crap where the government coffers put up the defense money.

So, they advocate disarming all MSNBC security guards?

NYPD officers?

Secret Servicemen guarding Democrats?

Their own private security teams?

They mark these idiots out every time there is a shooting. MSNBC is not the only one. Cavuto had a "guest" said that shotguns were safer.

I guess this useful idiot did not know that these were almost considered outlawed under the Geneva Convention for their lethality where the machine gun was not during WW1.

Kind of like those gravity experiments done during the Middle Ages where the guy took two different weights and dropped them off the Tower of Pisa and they hit the ground at the same time, to prove that falling objects of different weights don’t fall at different rates. O’Donnell wouldn’t be able to tell which one hit him first. And I wouldn’t care.

Two students hand in their test papers. One was accurate, but the other was completed in 1/3 the time, with no attention to accuracy. Clearly, the faster one gets the better grade!!! The more accurate student can never compete!

Someone should challenge o’donnell to back up his assertions on national television. Have someone shoot o’donnell with a wimpy, slow handgun. If a handgun bullet is so slow, o’donnell should be able to dodge it easily. Think he’ll take the challenge?

They’re going to try to regulate a speed limit on ammunition. You know that’s coming next.

He makes a good case that the armed teachers should have AR15s not handguns. I’m wondering if EVERY school should have 1 semester of a hands on gun safety course. It is obvious most of the live discussing this have never hekd a gun.

It’s impossible to fathom such colossal stupidity from these cloistered, oxygen-deprived prancing fairies. If there is ever such a thing as a time machine, they should all go back and slap fire from their parent’s faces for raising such uninformed cowards and tantrum-throwing, emasculated sissies.

Thank GOD we have the Electoral College, otherwise we’d be ruled forever by these squealing, anti-American maggots.

Lying is what they do in the liberal media. The real issue is how people all over this country listen to and believe them.

Not so! A single shot is enough to stop a shooter. MSNBC can and would find any argument against doing the one thing that would stop the killing of children. Proven once again because they like the headlines that kids have been killed.
