That's right. He shouldn't have committed suicide. That would have been an unhealthy reaction to a stressful situation.
He should have fired at and stopped an attacker who was focused on young victims at the time. That's what most of his predecessors a few decades ago would have done. But then many of them had prior military service training in combat specialties, and they were in good enough shape to run and catch young criminals on foot.

This guy has a long history in law enforcement. He didn’t just walk in off the street from Taco Bell, and get hired.
I don’t consider him a coward.
Just above here, my last post touches on a few more reasons why he may have done exactly what he should have.
