The sheriffs deputy who failed to engage the shooter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School believed he did a good job because he called in the location of the massacre and gave a description of the shooter, a top union official said Thursday.
School resource officer Scot Peterson, who resigned in disgrace from the Broward County Sheriffs Office, was distraught about shooting that killed 17 people but believed he did his duty, according to the president of the Broward Sheriffs Office Deputies Association.
He believed he did a good job calling in the location, setting up the perimeter and calling in the description (of Cruz), said the union official, Jim Bell.

Cowardly piece of sh*t.
Figures he’s a democrat.
Dig deep enough, and we’ll probably find out he’s a Gun Control Activist too.
The shooter was spending enough time in each room, to shoot a number of people. Some of those people survived. Whos to say they would have if an officer charged in and a gunfight ensued.
You say that as if there would be a gunfight only if the officer charged in. There was a gunfight going on already. It was a very one sided gunfight, but it was a gunfight.
Do you really believe that a shooter in a room full of unarmed people is likely to kill more people if he is being challenged by someone with a gun than if he is not?
The ones who survived were likely hiding in the room and not making themselves easy targets. The gunman would have entered the room from the door in the hallway. It is unlikely that he would have ventured far into the room, instead shooting from the doorway or just inside. That would give him the biggest advantage in a scenario where no one was challenging him.
Had someone engaged him from outside the room, that would likely have drawn his fire towards the hallway, away from the people in the room. And it isn't as if there would have been any people just wandering down the hallway at that time.
Perhaps you believe that the gunfire from the officer would have killed people. Keep in mind that those who survived were likely hiding to keep from being targets. That would have likely put them out of the way of the officer's fire as well. Particularly because his target would have been a very obvious one.
Even if the officer's shots would have hit someone in the room, it is less likely to be fatal than being hit from the weapon that the shooter was using.
What happens if he goes in, the crossfire winds up killing five more, and the officer dies also? What would that have accomplished?
That highly unlikely scenario would not accomplish anything productive. But I could likewise pose the following question; What happens if he goes in, and five less get killed, but the officer dies in the process? What would that have accomplished? It is no less likely that the scenario that you put forth.
One of the reasons that I would favor engaging the shooter is that in a good portion of these cases, once engaged, the shooter will kill themselves. It isn't always the case, but it has been on many occasions.
A question I have for you is under what circumstances would you believe that going into the building to engage the shooter would be worthwhile? How many people do you feel would be needed? What type of weapons would they need? What type of intel on the situation would they need? I am honestly curious about when and if you think force should be used against the shooter.
As a (somewhat) side note, I would point out that I think the actions of the officer should be judged against his training - and I do not know what that training is. If the policy in this situation was to stay outside and wait for backup, then he followed what he was trained to do.
Sorry, but it’s bloody daft. The scenario is unchallenged and ongoing mass murder.
You’ve gone from defending the cop’s choices to clearly declaring that any attempted defense of those children would have made matters worse... An assertion that is not only false, but quite literally, insane.
This wasn’t some tv universal-soldier type killer. It was a 19 year old autist in a gun-free zone. Any competent adult returning fire would have saved lives.MANY lives. Look at how he reacted when they finally did apprehend him.
I understand your saying the cop didn’t have to risk his own life. Nobody signs up to die on the job, but this line of argument is rubbish, and I’m disappointed seeing it show up here unchallenged.
The SCOTUS has ruled that it is not the duty of the police to keep citizens safe. So who you gonna call when the SHTF? We’ll call on Mr. Glock.

Liz - take a look at the above picture... it’s nuts but reeks of pale horse:
William Cooper, Naval Intelligence Officer, who Predicted 9/11, wrote in his 1991 Book, About a CIA Plot to get School Shootings Going to Disarm the Citizens (i.redd.it)
And I looked,
and behold a pale horse:
and his name that sat upon him was Death,
and Hell followed with him.
And power was given unto them
over the fourth part of the earth,
to kill with sword,
and with hunger,
and with the beasts
of the earth.

Scary.
The pension goes through only of he's "doing a good Job."
Like calling in the location of a crime, setting up the perimeter and calling in the description of the shooter.
So he's got that nailed. (smirk)
<><> stop enforcing the law on school campuses
<><> they improved student behavior statistics
<><> they artificially reduced the number of reported student crimes, and
<><> they altered the ethnic makeup of student arrests.
The intended result? To pocket more state and federal funding.......a greedy money grab that caused 17 teen deaths.
But waitit gets even worse.
In 2016, Obama used Browards progressive model agreement to stop enforcing the law on school
campuses nationwide. Compliance with the Obama guidelines play a role in determining the level of
federal funding directed toward schools and law enforcement.
NEED TO KNOW:
<><> Was Scott Petersons cop salary financed wholly or partly with federal grants Broward fraudulently received?
<><> Did Peterson receive bonuses, unearned time toward his pension, or other emoluments that consisted of fraudulent tax dollars?
<><> Who has possession of Scott Petersons work schedule and job description?
<><> Did Scott Petersons reports about his official activities appear in Browards applications for federal grants?
<><> Did Scott Peterson ever sign off on applications for federal funds?
<><> where are Scott Petersons reports about crime activity in the school district?
<><> where are Scott Petersons reports on the ethnic makeup of perpetrators of school crimes?
At the CNN ambush, or as they called it "town hall," Israel accused Dana Loesch of not standing up for the kids unless she was for less guns.
You would think he would be in political danger, but then those S FL voters keep sending Debby to congress.
Now, as more information becomes available, todays news reveals that 4 Broward county sheriffs eventually responded, and NOT ONE of them entered the school buildings, but, like the School security officer, built a perimeter AROUND the school. Officers arriving at the scene, were shocked and surprised that THEY were the first ones to enter the buildings.
The more we know, the more it shows the failure of the Broward Sheriffs Department, and perhaps the fact that the Deputy was acting within parameters set fourth by the department. Naturally, the report from Broward County will not be released to the public for another week.
After reading last night posts on the subject, I wanted to add one more observation. Most police officers have told me that with a handgun, which is all this officer had, effective success at hitting the target is most accurate within 10 yards, or 30 feet. So, getting close enough to reasonably hit the shooter, who by the way, was using a rifle with accuracy closer to 100 feet, would be next to impossible. In the field, officers, when firing a hand gun need to be reasonably close. If they are dealing with distance, they retrieve their rifle with each police cruiser is equipped with, as well as a shotgun. Going into an active shooter scenario would be suicidal. Back-up would bring the needed correct firepower to take the perpetrator out successfully. Anything less would probably be ineffective.
Well, now there were 4 who were derelict.
Suicide is not the right result. That is a typical strawman argument, I reject it.
Police are to protect, he failed in his duty.
I’d prosecute his ass in a heartbeat. He’s an accessory as far as I’m concerned.
And a coward, not worthy of being called a man.
“...Israel accused Dana Loesch of not standing up for the kids unless she was for less guns....”
The proper answer is “And YOUR Deputies DID NOT stand up for the kids and let them be murdered while they cowered (In body armor and armed) behind their cars.”
If we’re going to fight with words, then we should not hesitate to use the proper words.
Those kids were murdered because LEOs failed to do their jobs.
And if their only job was to “set up a perimeter” and allow those people to be murdered, then every damned one of US needs to shout to the rafters for armed school security.
As well as for OUR OWN RIGHT to carry anywhere, and everywhere, at all times.
Because CLEARLY, these Public Servants didn’t give a demo-rat’s ass about those kids.
Everyone of them needs to lose the badge and gun. Get a job at McDonald’s. Especially that Israel POS. He’s a menace.
But then again, that might be too dangerous, too.
Amen.
You're right NFHale - that's exactly what happened... at every level.
