TOPEKA Sen. Pat Roberts supports placing an age restriction on the rifle that was used in a Florida school shooting where 17 people died.
The Kansas Republican said he believes Congress is ready to act and expects President Donald Trump to take the lead.
"This is an opportunity, if you look at these youngsters who are so emotionally tied in to this grief of losing their friends but its more than gun control. But I think were ready as a Congress to actually pass something and I think its going to be better background checks. Certainly nobody under 21 should have an AR-15," Roberts told reporters at the Kansas Statehouse.
"I dont know why anybody would want an AR-15 unless theyre going to take one out on the shooting range."
The call for an age restriction may place Roberts in tension with the National Rifle Association.

State militia.
Here are the three there right now:
Bill Schneider
Is he aware of the U.S. Military? So you could serve a couple years in the US Army, get out and not be able to own the semi-auto version of the M-16 you were just carrying? In fact, you could be 20 years old in the Army, and be unable to own an AR15, even though you carry an M16 on duty...

Umm Senator...Ranchers use the AR-15 all the time for varmint control. Ranch hands can be 15-20 or older. I am sure some of your constituents could let you know. That would make age limit Unconstitutional because a lot of times these people must have their own gun to get the job. Wake up.

Nobody under 21 should be allowed to vote or join the armed forces too. Ban liberals, not guns!hree there right now:
It’s just a .22 with more powder ,LOL
This is utterly retard. The no one under 21 could be endless. So just off the top of my head how about abortion? The libtards would be protesting before the last words came out of the congress critters mouth.
.
What ????
Nobody under 21 should serve in the military?
Is that what this fool is saying?
No one with disdain for the Constitution should be allowed to take a seat in Congress.
Drinking alcohol isn’t a constitutional right. Bearing arms is.
“On the other hand, I have no problem requiring anyone wishing to purchase a fire arm to attend a basic gun safety course and fire arm training course before they are allowed to posses a gun.”
Just another tax. I first used a gun at the age of 5, more than 60 years ago. I don’t need no steenking course.
Maybe, as it might not look so scary to liberals.
Nobody under 21 should have an AR-15.
I AGREE.

To convince those who shout “Shall not be infringed”, what’s your rationale for an age limit on “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” not being an infringement?
Or are you saying those under 21 aren’t people (a position on which you might have a point)?
“Drinking alcohol isnt a constitutional right.”
It took a constitutional amendment to prohibit it, and another to correct that mistake.
It’s more of a constitutional right than the right to privacy that opened the floodgates to the worship of Moloch.
The fact of the matter is that our Second Amendment was not written in case Bambi turned on us.
They can’t purchase a pistol?
It is because of people like him in Public Office that we have the Second Amendment.
These ignoramuses don't realize an M1A is more lethal than a scary black rifle (AR15). It has a more powerful cartridge and greater effective range.
The general gov't has no Article I, Section 8 powers to infringe the 2nd amendment in any way. It trumps any Article I, Section 8, Para 2 "penumbra or emanation" that might be perceived as a power to regulate firearms. The 2nd amendment was passed AFTER the body of constitution and superceeds anything in the body of that document.
while on the subject. On occasion Pappy would observe that some people - usually politicians or lesser criminals - were not worth the powder & shot to give him a good sendoff.
I was a Correction Officer for NY State. After weapons training, we were also Peace Officers. I was around 34 when I finally went to the academy after having already been on the job for almost a year. During that first year I couldn’t do any jobs that required carrying a weapon, until I had weapons training at the academy. There were a few male trainees who were between 3-6 months from their 20th birthday, and although they were allowed to attend the academy, and go through weapons training, they weren’t allowed to carry on the job until they’d reached their 20th birthday. I had to qualify with the AR-15, and the other weapons issued by the department every year, and although I never had any problem qualifying for the 25 years I was a Peace Officer, I never enjoyed it. I could have bought and carried a weapon on my badge, but never did. It was just something I didn’t care to do.
Excellent point.
I certainly hope you are only pulling my chain.
