Why would this family chose to live in a ghetto?
It is not a ghetto. It is an old-time Italian Catholic, family-oriented neighborhood with traditional values. But charter schools bring in pupils from other areas.
South Philly used to be tough Italian. Eggplant was only welcomed in the kitchens, not the streets.
