Local law enforcement are investigating threats at two area high schools and alerting the public to an increased police presence on campus Thursday.
Fairfax County Public Schools acknowledged a threat on social media toward Fairfax High School.
"Police are actively investigating and additional officers are at the school," a brief statement noted. No other schools or facilities were impacted.
The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is also investigating a threat circulating on social media toward a school with the initials "SHS."
"Investigators do not believe the threat is credible," SCSO officials said in a statement. "Out of an abundance of caution, the sheriff's office is investigating and will increase security at Stafford High School today to ensure parents, students, and school staff are safe and feel protected."
Earlier this week, the SCSO and deputies in Spotsylvania reported threats made targeting two middle schools in the area.
Glad my local Sheriff takes school mass-murder threats seriously. Just hours ago: https://www.facebook.com/ForsythCountySO/posts/1602845656467654
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male who allegedly made threats of violence related to a school shooting at West Forsyth High School in Forsyth County.
Wednesday night, February 21st, the Sheriff’s Office was notified by a concerned parent of a potential social media post and statements by a local student which depicted a firearm and a potential threat of violence. The Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Forsyth County School System, immediately began an investigation into the report. After numerous interviews with the students and parents, lasting well into the morning hours, the suspect was able to be identified and located. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and School Resource Unit conducted an interview with the student and his parents. Based on the findings of the investigation the student was taken into custody and charged with one count of Terroristic Threats and Acts then turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
The Sheriff’s Office takes each and every report of suspicious activity seriously. We continuously work closely with our school safety partners to ensure all of our schools stay safe. This week alone we have received several reports of suspicious activity that we fully investigated and found no creditable threat; however, this situation was different and was a legitimate concern.
We continue to strongly urge students, parents, and facility to say something if they see or hear of ANY suspicious activity. #SeeSomethingSaySomething
Arm the school staff, STAT.
Threats against schools are increasing. Repeal the 1st amendment now!
Erect larger gun free zone signs.
Were tests scheduled?
That’s great that they handled it so well.
I think the kid in Fairfax had been suspended.
Same at the High School near me (Vista High, near San Diego)
This is typical irrational hysteria. They don’t know what the f*ck a threat is, and arrest kids who post pictures of guns and talk about the shootings.
For examples of credible threats, read postings by m*slims.
Hipefully these were just kids trying to get attention and nothing else.
Same department also approves NFA Form 4s (applications to buy the really “scary” guns).
