They don’t want people bringing their own snacks and drinks inside. That’s the real reason for this. They want you to buy from their snack bar.

Why would people bring food in large bags when a good sized box of candy fits in a coat pocket? (speaking hypothetically, of course)

They're making exceptions for diaper bags and some other things. Why? A procedure of checking bags in before entering the movie would encourage people to leave stuff in their cars.

Agree. Hidden behind the gross dollar numbers, is the fact that movie audiences are the lowest they have been for decades. Good or bad the only way theaters can make money is from goofy popcorn and soda prices.
