Cinemark banning large bags from its theaters
kxan ^ | Feb. 20, 2018 | staff

Starting Thursday, Cinemark will not allow moviegoers to bring in large bags at its theaters.

The company says the new policy, effective Feb. 22, was put in place to “enhance the safety and security” of guests and employees. Any bags or packages measuring larger than 12″ x 12″ x 6″ will not be permitted into the theater.

The theater says while it does not provide a general area to check bags, its employees reserve the right to inspect all bags and packages entering the theater. Diaper bags and medical bags are allowed.

Diaper bags and medical bags are allowed.

Translation: Henceforth all Jihadists should place all bombs in diaper bags.

This is not about security. It's about keeping out third-party snacks and video cameras.

I can’t remember the last time I went to a theatre and saw a movie, but I am getting old... :-)

“Theater popcorn is very overpriced, but like attending a sporting event and paying $5 for a brat. Planned into the cost of the trip.”

The theater business model is whacked. They make nothing off ticket sales. Their only profit comes from snack sales.

Why would people bring food in large bags when a good sized box of candy fits in a coat pocket? (speaking hypothetically, of course)

They're making exceptions for diaper bags and some other things. Why? A procedure of checking bags in before entering the movie would encourage people to leave stuff in their cars.

"They could force their customers to watch the movies stark naked...

They already have theaters for that, but I'd recommend that you at least wear shoes...

Theaters?
Is that like going to some building that looks like a hotel lobby to watch a giant TV in the dark?
I remember they did that when I was a kid.
Surprised they are still around.

Because of the filth Hollywierd does and supports.

The content of your post makes it appropriate to reciprocally ask you, why is it that you don’t want that behavior and abenda to be opposed in any meaningful way?

Women will complain and the theaters will then cave and allow massive purses in.

That's sexist, what about men who want to bring in purses.

Agree. Hidden behind the gross dollar numbers, is the fact that movie audiences are the lowest they have been for decades. Good or bad the only way theaters can make money is from goofy popcorn and soda prices.

Not for nuthin, but a lot of theaters have noise cancelling headphones that are available. I would imagine the sound would be better.

I just like going into a theater and watching on a large screen. We get out tickets through AAA, and they are something like eight bucks.

I have a great set up at home. But I don’t think it compares to the movie experience. Except I can sit in my robe at home.

I will look into it, it is nice to see the big screen, my wife would like to go more often, she usually goes with son.

Mr. b would get free tickets by playing quizzes on the radio. Eventually, he’d throw them out because there was nothing to see even for free.

Yup - you guys nailed it.

It’s not about food, it’s about guns. But both food and guns can fit easily in a 12x12x6 bag.

And the diaper bag ? That’s the best range bag of all ! Between Deadpool and Takeshi in Altered Carbon, these bags are really coming of age.

Movie theaters will soon go the way of Blockbuster stores.

They already have for me. Ahhh... the joys of watching a movie on Netflix DVD.

Watched It the other day. Decent flick. I have Bladerunner 2049 sitting here. Will watch later tonight.
