Being a shooting victim doesnt make you an expert on ending gun violence. But you wouldnt know that from watching CNN.
Its been a week since a monster killed 17 people at a Florida high school. The calls for gun control have been reflexive and ambiguous, but the media have found a new mouthpiece shooting survivors.
Students seize control of gun debate blared a MSNBC caption. An organization portraying itself as being made up of students announced a March 24 rally in D.C. and other cities called March For Our Lives. Some students say they wont return to class until gun-control legislation has been passed. Videos of shooting survivors calling for gun control have gone viral.
Interviewing shooting survivors makes for compelling television, but its a horrible way to conduct a reasoned debate. Experiencing a tragic event doesnt transform you into an expert, in the same way having a brain injury doesnt make you a brain surgeon.

To the Left, being a victim of something — whether real or invented — gives you a moral authority the unvictimized don’t have.
Fine.
NOT my problem.
The world needs ditch-diggers, too.
Personally, I prefer my ditch diggers to show up for work, on time, and sober.
Good point.
they have their gun control measures in the school... guns are not allowed in schools, that is why gunmen go there to kill. we have tried it their way for far too long. now is the time to allow constitutional carry, everywhere.
Flunk them.
The world still needs bums.
I know this is going to sound terrible but I’m hoping for the next salacious event to happen so this gets kmocked off the news cycle.
Sigh. They should be suspended.
So imagine roughly 40x the Florida massacre: That’s Obama land a.k.a Chicago; many times 17 shot/killed on a WEEKEND. I guess since they are black those lives don’t matter s/. Broward County is super white so I guess these kids are
“racis” lol. This whole thing is sooo stupid and I feel so bad for parents and family who lost loved ones as they have to go through the stench of this as they bury their dead.
” I feel more morally superior since I have been shot at numerous times.”
Yeah, I wonder what their stand is on rockets and mortars?
What do they know of life, from their parents?
What do they know of our Constitution, from a teacher?
What do they know of true gun statistics, from study?
What do they know of debate, from training?
What do they know of God, from a minister?
Really big ditto.
Yeah, I’ll take Constitutional advice from a generation that thinks eating Tide detergent pods is a smart thing to do.
Not.
These kids are not enemies of freedom; they’re victims, being exploited by enemies of freedom. Keep that distinction clear, for the sake of freedom.
They are weaponized, and they are attempting to attack my freedom.
I do not appreciate it.
I do not sympathize with them, and I do not empathize with them.
Attacking me because you were attacked by someone else makes you my enemy.
I’m sorry, that’s the way it is.
Good luck with that. I think you’ll do better defeating your enemies with a more subtle touch.
The school administrators, the local police and the FBI all made it plain to anyone with eyes to see that they don't care about the children.
Time for parents who love their children to step up to the plate.
I don’t doubt for a single second that their anger and grief is real.
I simply think because they are fulfilling a role as tools in an important issue by Leftists who absolutely don’t share their anger and grief, that they diminish the perceived genuineness of those.
But they are being taken advantage of, and have signed on fully, because national attention in a spotlight is a heady thing. It is what it is.
