Hero Aaron Feis, the Disarmed School Guard
American Thinker ^ | 2/19/2018 | Patrick Jakeway

Posted on 02/19/2018 10:31:52 AM PST by servo1969

Aaron Feis was the right man in the right place at the right time, but he was legally prevented from using the right, constitutionally protected tool to do the job. Mr. Feis was shot on Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, shielding students from a killer with his own body. Ultimately, he and 16 other people, mainly students, died. Mr. Feis was truly a remarkable and courageous man.

Most media reports have focused on his after-school job as a Stoneman Douglas High football coach (here, here, here, here, and here) - but, on Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Feis was doing his day job as a school guard. Mr. Feis was legally disarmed by the federal government in his attempt to save potentially dozens of children from murder.

***********************************

So why was Aaron Feis disarmed? Lisa Maxwell of the Broward County Principals and Assistants Association stated to the Sun-Sentinel

The only person trained and armed to fight back against an assailant at Stoneman Douglas is its one school resource officer, a Broward Sheriff's deputy funded by the city of Parkland. But Maxwell said she doesn't think he was on campus when the shooting happened.

"I have been told by a couple of sources that the SRO was either called off campus responding to something happening or it could have been his day off," she said. "They are stretched very thin.

This raises the question of why only one person was trained and armed to fight back against an assailant. One reason is that the "Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990," originally passed as part of the Budget Control Act of 1990, bars school personnel from arming themselves.

Seems that the only people who are allowed to have guns in schools are the shooters.

That keeps the narrative tightly focused.

His day off? Are they working 4 days a week? This makes no sense.

There was a caller on one of the shows whose school district called in the local cops the day after Sandy Hook to come in and make recommendations.

Unfortunately I was driving and couldn’t take notes, but a number of the suggestions were dead simple.

One was to invite the cops to do their report writing at the school, giving them a frequent and random presence there, rather than at the local Starbucks. They implemented that one the very next day.

Another was to have the SROs (School Resource Officers) keep their ARs in a readily accessible safe on the campus, rather than require them to leave them out in their cars.

Others required a bit more work, restricting entry to a single point, ability to lock down zones to isolate an assailant, and to provide video feed from their existing cameras to responding officers in their patrol cars.

The course of fire for qualifying a FL LEO in the use of firearms is pretty easy to pass for a lightly-experienced shooter. When you are facing a guy with a gun in a school, there aren’t a lot of law enforcement nuances that require the full training of a LEO either. Its time to let civilians be the true “First Responders”.

Mr. Feis was ILLEGALLY AND UNCONSTITUTIONALLY disarmed by the federal government in his attempt to save potentially dozens of children from murder.

The Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 is ILLEGAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Servo1969,

Lisa Maxwell of the Broward County Principals and Assistants Association is WRONG; Mr Feis was at the school and died protecting one of the kids with his body.

Had he been armed, more children would be alive today.

When you think about it, the places where the constitution ( 1A, 2A) must absolutely be followed are public and government-owned properties. That’s national forests, state lands, civic parks, public schools, gov offices, etc.

Only upon private property should any limit on COTUS be allowed, and highly limited at that.

Those responsible for creating “gun free” mass shooting, etc school locations need be charged as accomplice to the shooters.

And sued for every penny for victim family restitution.

Dems love mass shootings .... which is why they create ‘gun free” “invitation to mass murder” zones.

Funny how Obama’s kids school more safe....hey...those schools have armed guards....nice plus for the elite...but how about if the Dems cared about us little people and our kids?

Naw...never happen...Dems love mass shooters.

Elegant simplicity

Make it so

Nationally.

There has to be a way to utilize cell phones to better communicate and define situations at schools. Pulling a fire alarm for everything is almost absurd.

When I was a kid we had nuclear bomb drills. Under the desk or then it was in the hallway, backs against the wall, head down. It is laughable today, but the fact we are still running and ringing a bell is almost as laughable.

Then what’s the story about the unarmed guard in the school. The armed officer was outside the building at the time.

This is exactly the issue. It happens with security and with socialized medicine. Sooner or later the government will cut back the resources so that it does a bad job. The FBI will tell you they don’t have the manpower to chase down every lead. Schools will tell you they don’t have the manpower to teach music or languages. The VA will tell you that you have to wait 2 months to see a doctor.

This is the problem with government. They will always end up spending their resources on lower priorities and explaining how they have to ration the original priority they were set up for.

And this is why we don’t want them to take guns. They won’t police what they have.

COACH FEIS

The football assistant coach Aaron Feis who was also a security person at the school and died blocking the kids with his body SHOULD HAVE BEEN ARMED.

According to Feis’ Facebook page, he lived in Coral Springs and was a fan of Ronda Rousey and Tim Tebow, the TV show “Duck Dynasty” and the movie “Faith of Our Fathers.” Among his posts were a quote from Billy Graham, “A coach will impact more young people in a year than the average person does in a lifetime,” and tributes to the U.S. military and an advertisement for a “Concealed Carry Jacket” with a handgun poking out of a pocket.

So Coach Feis Could have saved most of the kids…Coach Feis SHOULD HAVE saved all those people.

But Coach Feis WAS NOT ALLOWED TO CARRY HIS LICENSED PISTOL.
