Holy cow? You really believe that? Are you obese and looking for an excuse? Anyone who has not noticed the explosion of fat in America over the last two decades has to be bloody blind!!!

It is a pandemic, the number one health problem in America. The medical community is scared poopless and there is no way to stop it. It is so severe among the young they are basically screwed for the rest of their shortened lives.

Do you also think the Russians caused the witch to lose?

I am not obese LOL.

I am only addressing the measurements involved to declare a person “obese”.

The BMI is a joke.

And no, I didn’t visit your link. Don’t have to.

Obesity of a large number of people is one reason I dread flying.

Those baby boomer stats say it all—one out of three chance means in a full plane there is a good chance an obese person will be stuffed into one of your three seats.

The seats have gotten smaller while Americans have gotten larger.

There is room for criticism on both sides of this equation. I have watched the definition of “normal” body weight get smaller and smaller for decades - with some of the proxy measurements for a true BMI promoted when they ignore more heavily muscled people. BMI, when done as a an Archimedes principal displacement test, is very accurate. The various tape tests and the actuarial tables are jokes for anyone who carries a lot of muscle and a bit of belly fat.

However, there has also been an explosion of obesity, which I believe is at least partially driven by the carb-heavy food eating guidelines promulgated in the US. Lack of exercise makes it worse.

One reason why I am critical of the definition of “obesity” is that is says I should weigh 50 pounds less than when I graduated high school - as a 3 sport letterman. In fact, the tables show I should weigh approximately what I weighed in 7th grade.

The explosion of obesity is obvious to anyone who has eyes but the weight charts that I have seen lately do not allow for anyone to be more than a skeletal figure. According to the charts I should lose fifty pounds yet those who actually know me ask how I manage to stay so trim and fit looking at 73. Some people have this strange thing called muscle weight which is nothing like fat. I wear size 2xl shirts and size 36 waist pants. Some people of my height and weight wear pants larger than their chest measurement.

... there is no way to stop it.

There may be no way to "stop" it, but it can be severely curtailed by ending the pushing of "eat lots of carbs!" dietary fraud.

What if It's All Been a Big Fat Lie?
