The navy admiral nominated to be the next US ambassador to Australia has told Congress America must prepare for the possibility of war with China, and said it would rely on Australia to help uphold the international rules-based system in the Asia-Pacific. In an excoriating assessment of Chinas increasingly muscular posture in the region, Harry Harris said Beijings intent is crystal clear to dominate the South China Sea and that its military might could soon rival American power across almost every domain. Harris, soon to retire as the head of US Pacific Command in Hawaii, told the House armed services committee, the US and its allies should be wary of Beijings military expansionism in the region, and condemned Chinas foreign influence operations, predatory economic behaviour and coercion of regional neighbours. Chinas intent is crystal clear. We ignore it at our peril, he said. Im concerned China will now work to...

Under the circumstances, that would include the people of the U.S.A. being individually equipped and ready to defend our country at home if ever necessary. More training in safety, accuracy and tactics is needed, and so far, Americans have saved the government enormous sums of money by doing so for themselves while purchasing and managing their own equipment.
We need some Sue-Bashers to join the Putin-Bashers here...because we sure as hell be prepare ourselves for war, because the alternative is actually fighting one.
“Under the circumstances, that would include the people of the U.S.A. being individually equipped and ready to defend our country at home if ever necessary.”
That’s the last war, and the wars before that - when labor was in short supply and you needed your prisoners to build arms.
With 1.6B people already, and the ability to produce everything they need, I suspect China would just as well do away with everyone here (in the US and any other troublesome country), as we really don’t have much to offer them...and with the Second Amendment, why go through all the trouble? At least that would be my advice in that country, if it ever came to it.
I saw a Chinese movie about a river that runs through China and some of the history of that river. The theme was that the river is gloriously Chinese, that it runs out to the sea and to the whole world: an allegory for a common Chinese belief that China’s destiny is to flow out to the world and conquer it all in retaliation for being taken advantage of in the past by other nations like ours, Britain, Japan, etc.
Besides, the nature of communism/fascism is expansionism. Adherents of such systems of government have always felt compelled to spread those systems, which systems are really only variants of empire. They feel that they must keep the people under their control focusing hostilities outward, towards other nations, in order to keep those people from rebelling. To do so, they must make plans to conquer nation after nation and continuously act on those plans.
They feel more secure in their hope for authoritarian empire. The very thought of living under any system other than an empire makes them uneasy and scares them.

ok, that was supposed to read: “Any thoughts on Harris’ comments?’
Apparently, they don't have enough food to feed all of their people. Nor do they have enough oil. I once read where the Chinese are buying up or leasing US farmland to grow food to send back to china. Now, I wonder what would happened to all of that US debt with china if there was a war.
Interesting that the Chinese refer to President Trump as Donald the Strong. My sense is it is, at least in part, a swipe at his spineless predecessor.
If anyone can keep us out of a truly horrific war, it would be our current President. Brinksmanship appears to be one of his areas of expertise.

This article kind of goes that way - but even so, they won’t many Americans for that task! And there are other countries to import from.
The only other great power to lose more wars than Russia is China, and yet Russia and China are supposed to be the great boogey-men that should terrify the US, the country with more military firepower than the rest of the world, combined.
In the last 200 years China has fought against Japan, Russia, the US, France, Britain, India, Vietnam and even Germany at one stage. With the exception of India China lost every time, tiny war-weary Vietnam kicked the crap out of them.
Now China has a huge demographic timebomb ready to explode as its absurd one-child policy takes its toll. So who is going to man the ramparts against the imperialist running dogs?
The obese little emperors of only sons whose entire spoilt lives represent the efforts of three generations of great grandparents, grandparents and parents? Are they going to be sent to the front to die in human waves when the Politburo crashes the gongs and bangs the cymbals? I don’t think so.
China has left it too late for world domination, perhaps 30 years to late, their chance won’t come again.
Remember not long ago when the adoring liberal progressives could not heap more praise on how wonderful the Chinese system is. Remember mao’s Christmas ornament on the white house tree? We can safely say the progressives would be their useful idiots when and if the time came. The enemies amongst us is real Charlie brown
The problem with fighting weak people is that they stand for nothing, so you don't know where they stand. Consequently when they finally get their nether parts in a vice, you will find yourself engulfed in nuclear war over some stupid stuff rather than the stuff that they should have taken a stand on a long long time ago.
Simple as that. Start off with a 30% import tariff on EVERYTHING. Then ween ourselves off the Chinese imports.
I just thought perhaps his nickname was Ton. 8>)
No war with china. They will just sit back and drain us to the point they can foreclose and kick us out.
I don’t know about 30%, but I don’t think a modest tariff on imported goods would be a bad thing.
