The author says that while Israeli gun laws are more like those in Europe than the US, gun control has failed. Criminal and terrorists can easily get guns in spite of licensing requirements. And the reality of deadly, on-going terrorism has forced the Israeli government to drastically relax its licensing requirements.

The best way to prevent school massacres would be to haVe armed guards and armed teachers in schools. But America would rather have its kids mowed down than to protect them. That says a lot more about its unwillingness to face reality than to deal with the problem at hand.

Bad guys will seek to kill in gun-free zones and keeping people forcibly disarmed making them sitting ducks lead to high death counts. Rather than ban guns, its high time to eliminate gun-free zones altogether. There is no logical or common-sense justification to maintain them. Period.

Since 1982, according to statistic compiled by Mother Jones magazine, there have been 16 school shootings in the United States, resulting in 162 fatalities. Including the Parkland shooting Wednesday. In that same interval over 500,000 people have been murdered in the U.S.

The worst school massacre in the United States occurred in Bath, Michigan in 1927, with 44 dead.

in light of the conduct of the teachers and coaches who threw themselves into the line of fire to save students. I think they’d have been better off if they’d had the means to defend them properly. They certainly weren’t lacking the courage necessary to engage the shooter.

I also wonder how many of the staff actually have CCW permits but weren’t allowed to have them on the school grounds due to the stupid gun free zone.

When terrorists attacked a school in Maalot in 1974, Israel did not declare every school a gun-free zone.
It passed a law mandating armed security in schools, provided weapons training to teachers and today runs frequent active shooter drills.
There have been only two school shootings since then, and both have ended with teachers killing the terrorists.

When the knife intifada erupted in September 2015, the Israeli government's response was to ease the process for the civilian populace to obtain weapons. After a particularly bloody Jerusalem shooting attack that killed four, then-Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan drastically changed the gun laws in order to significantly raise the number of armed civilians on the streets. Instantly, graduates of Special Forces units and IDF officers with the rank of Lieutenant and above were permitted to purchase guns at their will, security guards were allowed to bring their guns home after work, and the minimum age for a license was reduced from 21 to 18.

Meanwhile, on FR (of all places), we have a bunch of ... people ... who want to RAISE the legal age to purchase firearms. We even have one who wants to prohibit anyone under 21 from even touching a firearm. The stupidity needs to stop.
