Washington (CNN)Former Trump campaign adviser Rick Gates is finalizing a plea deal with special counsel Robert Mueller’s office, indicating he’s poised to cooperate in the investigation, according to sources familiar with the case.

Gates has already spoken to Mueller’s team about his case and has been in plea negotiations for about a month. He’s had what criminal lawyers call a “Queen for a Day” interview, in which a defendant answers any questions from the prosecutors’ team, including about his own case and other potential criminal activity he witnessed.

Gates’ plea deal could be announced in the next few days, given that he’s asked a judge for an extension until Wednesday to discuss his in-flux legal representation.

Gates is Manafort’s associate, not a top Trump campaign adviser. He changed lawyer's not long ago.

Mueller want’s a scalp before Manafort’s lawsuit against the scope of the Special Counsel investigation throws the the whole thing down the toilet.

Was he really a campaign advisor? I thought he was a partner of Paul Manafort? Either way this nonsense has got to end - he wont be indict3d for anything directly related to collusion or the campaign.

After the DOJ OIG report comes out - soon - the clock is ticking on Sessions. He will need to take swift action - indictements. Or resign. In addition, failing to prosecute these criminals could encourage Trump supporters to sit home this fall. Trumps 2020 campaign could also be emparaled.

Run a quick search on DuckDuckGo “Manafort, Rick Gates.”

Burrowing down this rat hole may lead to John McCain.
