Transgender people have a VERY HIGH suicide rate - PERIOD! That HIGH RATE is NOT diminished post-surgery - PERIOD!
So, allowing this 17 year old to complete this surgery NOW is no guarantee that she won’t still commit suicide; therefore, that argument is MOOT at BEST and SPECIOUS at WORST! Therefore the “possibility of suicide” should NOT be an acceptable reason for termination of parental rights.
UNLESS, this 17 year old girl is seeking complete emancipation from ALL adult control and costs, this should still be the parents decision And the grand-parents should butt-out!

It been going on for years. Around 12 years ago I had to help a single mom and her three kids escape Mass. because she was targeted as an anti-gay bigot for not celebrating her daughter’s “coming out’ as gay. Turns out some Lesbian teachers got hold of the shy girl and talked her into her new identity. The school was working with the State to take the girl to foster care.
It was a one day turn around once we realized what they were doing. She and her children were packed and in the car to a different State before any court or official actions could happen. I knew someone there who could help them get established. What a mess.
why can’t parents accept children for who they think they are instead of who they actually are...

In a few days, weeks or months (less than a year) the 17 year old will be a legal adult, who can move out, get chemically enhanced, have her addadicktome, and call herself Chuck. Let her wait ‘til then.
This is exactly the same problem as the shooter in Florida. We have lost the will to lock up crazy possessed people. When and why did we close down the nut houses?
