1) The CC directory is not really updated as accurately as one would think. So the Alum directory isn‘t a solid yes or no
2) CC is a tiny school and was even more so at the time when it was still all male. A transfer student like Barry would have been definitely noticed, especially since he‘d be a older student in the Freshman Seminar required by all CC students.
3) Somewhere a few years ago, online I saw a supposed photo of Barry‘s CC id. It looked nothing like mine from 1978.
4) It always struck me as odd that a black Punahoe (sp?) grad would end up at Oxy. Oxy at the time was a school for rich SoCal kids who barely passed High School. It was for people who couldn’t get into USC, and at the time SC accepted anyone with a pulse. The campus was in Malibu ( need I say more ). This suggests that Barry was quite the stoner in prep school.
5) Even though CC was hard up for students at the time, it’s rather unlikely that Barry‘s grades at Oxy a were good enough to transfer to CC. Oxy was not a academic place. CC prided itself on old fashioned intellectual thinking., Barry‘s negroness wouldn‘t mean squat at CC of the late 70‘s. CC had plenty of talented negros who wanted to attend.
6) Zbigniew Brzezinsk ? Oh my god. He must have been recruiting everywhere in those days. He taught some bogus seminar at my undergrad which I attended; it was a obvious recruiting ground for ‘establshment’ careers.
7) A little background on the flavour of CC at the time. The faculty were generally grumpy traditionalists with a few critical exceptions. The non-jock student body spent a lot of time arguing arcane points of Marxist-Leninism. They was much talk of the true path to communism and whether Trotsky betrayed the revolution. It’s hard to believe today what poppycock was earnestly discussed. The jocks mostly just tried to get the BC girls in bed.
I always wondered how a negro stoner transfer prep school student from the West Coast would fit into such a society. I never could see it.

Not sure what "CC" is. Columbia University (undergraduate) is more than double the size of my school. These schools seek donations from alumni so they maintain the most accurate lists they are able to maintain. The capitalists who print these alumni directories most likely get their data from alumni departments with whom they have a symbiotic relationship.
