Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is pressing ahead with a massive overhaul of his department, despite growing opposition to his proposal to move hundreds of public employees out of Washington and create a new organizational map that largely ignores state boundaries.
Zinke wants to divide most of the departments 70,000 employees and their responsibilities into 13 regions based on rivers and ecosystems, instead of the current map based mostly on state lines.
The proposal would relocate many of the Interior Departments top decision-makers from Washington to still-undisclosed cities in the West. The headquarters of some of its major bureaus also would move to the West.
The concept supported in principle by many Western politicians from both parties is to get top officials closer to the natural resources and cultural sites they manage. [ ]
Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona, the ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Natural Resources, suspects the plan is an attempt to undercut the department by pressuring senior employees to quit rather than relocating, leaving positions unfilled and creating confusion about who regulates what.

Of course the Democrat would think in sleight-of-hand terms, because that’s how Democrats think, and operate.
Interior? How about the entire Congress?
Change the state boundaries as required.
Watershed boundaries make more sense than the rivers within.
We have all sorts of bridges and can build fery boats as needed.

Yes ... watch the piglets grunt their disapproval .... mingling with the commoners and actually being near what they rule over is beneath them.
I fail to see the problem.
Put me in charge of something in the West. If Democrats complain I would have one word for them: SHADDAP!
Freeze federal hiring of all employees for ANY alphabet federal agency. Let us see how important they are and if we can survive without them.
“””The proposal would relocate many of the Interior Departments top decision-makers from Washington to still-undisclosed cities in the West”””
From my days in corporate America this was how we got rid of the slackers. Tell them their job was being relocated from their popular city to an ‘out of the way’ location and the slackers would generally quit vs moving.
The map is ying and yang on being consistent with watersheds.
Grijalva is a moron. A product of Obama’s affirmative action redistricting of Arizona. An affirmative action politician.
Without the 17th, many of the reasons/causes for the loss of the Constitutional Republic would never have occurred...
How wonderful it would be if the Senate reflected "red" states vs "blue" states...and a Senator's only function was to serve the citizens of the state that they came from...
Crocodiles don’t do well outside the swamp.
How about eliminating the whole GD thing and turning all those lands back to the local counties or states. Those lands are all managed under a trust and that friggan dept has mismanaged that trust for years.
He is not affirmative action, just a home grown Hispanic pol in a city heavily Hispanic.
We need about 2 dozen SES and a hundred gs16 interior dept employees put in charge of mailroom ops.
When trough isnt getting filled to their slop requirements piggies will oink.
That’s how I spell Winning! Keep it up, Mr. Zinke!
