Proposal aimed at keeping up with population growth would limit cities power over housing, handing more control to state.
The mayor of Berkeley, California, has called it a declaration of war. A neighborhood group in Los Angeles said it would be akin to forcing Native Americans from their land.
Amid a desperate housing crisis, legislators in the Golden State have prompted an outcry with new proposals that threaten to take the rulebook that governs American city planning and throw it out the window.
Their proposition: reducing cities power to decide what gets built and putting more control into state hands.
We have a housing deficit in the millions and it grows every year, said the state senator Scott Wiener, author of a bill at the center of the fight.
Liberals have found themselves pitted against liberals, with urban environmentalists who want to build smart cities with dense housing around transit lines facing off against minority groups fighting to protect inner-city neighborhoods and suburbanites wanting to slow growth. It has divided renting millennials from their homeowning parents and created a passionate breed of housing activists calling themselves Yimbys.
In an interview, meanwhile, Mayor Jesse Arreguin of Berkeley called the proposed rule change extreme.
This will change the character of neighborhoods in the Bay Area and throughout the state.
Others see Wieners plan in even starker terms, underlining the challenge that he and Yimby groups face.
A stakeholders coalition in the Crenshaw district, a Los Angeles neighborhood that has historically had a large African American community, charged that the bill would drive up prices.

The obvious solution is to further encourage illegal immigration into the state.
I continually have head hunters calling me about jobs in cali. I keep explaining to them that 1) Even with a significant bump in pay between housing and taxes I loose money and 2) I do not want to live in a state where my freedoms are suppressed.
I often hear a ‘sigh’ and then get a ‘yeah, I’m hearing a lot of that’.
To be fair it’s true of the NE and Illinois as well.
When Sacramento tried to force Marin county to let poor folk in, through state- mandated cheap local
Housing, a Marin city had the answer. It replied that yes indeed it had met the states cheap housing requirement. Curious, since the towns average housing price is something like $4 million or so with nothing affordable in sight anywhere, the state inquired where those cheap rentals were. The answer: the maids room in all those mansions. Marin country people vote communist but will never allow those poor people into their neighborhoods. Indeed, Marin county is the epitome of the leftist lie. Communist dictatorship for the rest of us, so long as the Marin liars get to keep their exclusive segregated paradise all to themselves
This simply put, all about Moonbeam and his Aztlan la Razists wanting to ghettoize as much of California as possible. Moonbeam knows his time is running out and hard as he has tried in every public service position, and he’s had a lot, cause grievous injury to California businesses and legal residents, he has fallen woefully short of his desire.
The message in the proposal is: Look guys, we’ve declared our state a “sanctuary state” just so it can be flooded immensely from south of the border, so, legal are not all you taxpaying citizens must get the hell out of the way so we, the state politicians, can tax you more to build “affordable housing” for them.
Alot like Cape Cod...
The D hypocracy about how they lie to -and rip
Off -the poor and minorities -will
Make a serious campaign issue
Indeed. There's plenty of land for housing. Government owns three-quarters of the land. Used to be they wanted illegals here to work the farmlands, plenty of housing there and cheap. Still plenty of cheap housing there, but then the illegals started flooding the cities and ruined everything they touch. They don't need more housing, they just need to clean house of the filth.

Whatever happened to Mark Morford? He was a master of manipulation.
I see he’s still around and as hair-on-fireish as ever.
A recent example:
DACA, despite legal hurdles, has been one of the most elegant, successful solutions to the immigration problem, one resonating with trademark Obama-era compassion and thoughtfulness.
Not anymore. The Orange Goblin, using his favorite immigrant-hating elf-racist Attorney General Jeff Sessions as leering stooge, has finally decided to kill it something he actually promised to do on the campaign trail, right until he realized it might look very bad indeed to harm so many young people so directly, and so viciously, without really having a clue what he was doing which he never does.
Oh, no. There are more out there?
