If the kid is 17, they have less than a year and the parents will have no say in the matter. Not necessarily.
It is a long shot, especially in today’s political climate, but they could have the teen declared incompetent.
Then all medical decisions would have to be approved by the parents.

No psychiatrist who wants to keep their license would declare a person of one sex who wants to be another sex incompetents.
The state’s human rights tribunal would hit that doc so hard that he would never stand up again.
