On Oct. 11, 2016, Michael Foster and two companions rose before dawn, left their budget hotel in Grand Forks, N.D., and drove a white rental sedan toward the Canadian border, diligently minding the speed limit. As the driver, Sam Jessup, and a documentary filmmaker, Deia Schlosberg, recorded events from the back seat.
For months, he’d imagined his next actions: He would snip the padlock that secured the gate and approach the blunt length of vertical pipe in the center of the enclosure — the stem of a shut-off valve for the 2,700-mile-long Keystone Pipeline.
What neither the sheriff’s department nor TransCanada knew, however, was that while Foster was closing off the Keystone Pipeline, four other cross-border pipelines — in Washington, Montana and Minnesota — were being shut down, too. Together, the pipelines carry nearly 70 percent of the crude oil imported to the United States from Canada.
Foster, who is 53, was charged with criminal trespass and criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. At his bond hearing in Cavalier, N.D., he learned that he faced a maximum sentence of more than 26 years. When prosecutors requested that his bail be set at $100,000, Foster asked for a chance to speak. “Your Honor,” he said, “one of the main reasons for this action is to appear here and see justice done for our children, and to protect the air and land and water that they will require to survive. So it’s very important for me to be here in this courtroom, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. I’m — it’s terrifying — but I am not going to miss it.”
Judge Laurie Fontaine set his bail at $75,000.

Maybe he changes his mind about fear of prison after he gets some lovin from his cell mate.
Well, he can get raped in prison, but not by “climate change”. He’ll quickly learn what’s scarier.

I was born in that area. Praise Jesus for global warming. 7500 years ago the ice there was two miles thick.
The people and the judges up there don’t take kindly to foreigners ( anyone not a North Dakotan) messing with their stuff.
And be sure to put him in a North Dakota prision. That should allay his unfounded phobia of global warming.
It seems pretty easy to shut down a critical pipeline. Just a padlock stands in the way?

I said when I see Al Gore get rid of his mansions and start bicycling instead of riding fuel guzzling jets everywhere I might start to think about it. Til then they can all kiss my butt.

Right. I guess it never crossed his mind that the gasoline he used to drive to the valve site could very well have been transported thru that pipe.
Bail should be set at $250,000.

With a last name like NIJHUIS, one thing is clear, she’s not a native English speaker! I had a NIJHUIS once, but minor surgery removed it from my nether region. I guess I am never surprised with the stuff written by most “members of the media,” because they never have a last name like Smith or Jones. It seems like one of the “jobs open to immigrants,” is being a reporter, not having a f*cking idea of what they’re talking about. This one is unique, not ending in stein, berg, man, or some color (green and blue come to mind), or a precious metal.
I suppose after spending some time with his new cellmate “Bubba”, he won’t be needing Ex-Lax anymore...
