Opinion: Trump's obstruction of justice is far more extensive than Nixon's
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | February 12, 2018 | by Harry Litman, The Washington Post

Posted on 02/12/2018 12:24:45 PM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

Now that a consensus is beginning to emerge that special counsel Robert Mueller has the evidence to make a compelling case of obstruction of justice against President Trump, the president's defenders have trotted out a new defense: that obstruction on its own is a mere "procedural crime" that doesn't really count unless coupled with proof of guilt on an underlying crime.

In other words, defenders view the Mueller probe as akin to the Watergate investigation without the break-in. But this view is wholly untenable.

The legal version of the argument is, as explained by Rich Lowry in National Review, "if Trump didn't collude with Russia - or doesn't have some other criminal secret to hide - it's hard to see what his corrupt intent would be in an obstruction case."

Ultimately, the political argument is just a way to dress up the grim fact that the Republican majority seems indifferent to the strength and severity of the charges that Mueller is developing. Its sole allegiance is to the preservation of political control, to which end Republicans have embraced an embarrassing series of diversionary tactics and bogus defenses of the president. Indeed, there seems to be nothing Trump could do that would justify impeachment in Republicans' eyes.

Congressional Republicans are all in on defense of party over country. They are determined for temporary political gain to prop up a leader who is a rogue, a constitutional menace, and yes, a criminal no less than Nixon. They have lost all sense of constitutional duty. If they do not find a way to regain it, history will judge them harshly.

No crime, no obstruction. TDS indeed. These loons accuse Trump of every single thing they themselves are doing. Sooner or later this Mueller thing has got to end. At that point the derangement will be absolute. Frankly, I can’t wait. Let’s get it on...

There are only two options here:

1.) They are intentionally playing stupid here and hanging onto the trumped up “Trump obstruction of justice” canard in hope of muddying the water for the low information voters whose eyes might glass over on this and they hope they come to the conclusion “both parties do it”.

2.) They are completely and totally batsh*t delusional.

Frankly, I think it is #2 that most aptly describes the leftists in this, and that is no pun, either.

Nice try, Litman. Nixon’s obstruction of Justice involved top members of his administration to obstruct investigation into an illegal activity, a break in. Trump’s “obstruction” involved no one other than firing an incompetent leaky FBI Director that was investigating a legal act, talking to Russians of which there was no proof that there were any discussions. You might try Clinton as a comparison where there was obstruction in trying to suborn perjury and for which he was indeed impeached but somehow I don’t think you will because Dems are immune from obstruction charges in the books of dishonest MSM folks such as yourself.Your one person “opinion” counts for nothing

This idiot is lawyer and teaches Constitutional Law at U C San Diego! What a tool. I wouldn't let this guy draw up a will.

Let me explain it to you Mr. Constitutional Professor. Trump is the President of the United States and is the HEAD of the executive Branch. He can do anything he wants to Mueller including firing him or even limiting his investigation. By LAW!

Now let’s talk about the 14th amendment and how Obama infringed and destroyed Trump's 14th amendment rights!

Flipping’ Moron this guy!

Has anyone other than the author come to that consensus?

This is one of the dumbest and most desperate things I've ever read.

If I hadn't seen the byline, I would have sworn that this was by Adam Schiff.

From 1917 until 2016, Democrats LOVED Russia and the Soviet Union because they had perfected communism and created the New Man. Something has changed to cool their ardor to the Russians. What can it possibly be?

>> Trump campaign had extensive contacts with Russians <<

More like the Obama administration tried to entrap Trump staff. But just exactly how is contacting a Russian obstruction of justice? Sounds like more circular pretzel logic from the the Left Wing echo chamber.

The article says the WaPo has documented 30 times the Trump campaign met with Russians. But the article doesn't say what might have been illegal about those meetings.

I did a quick search of Trump Campaign Meeting Russians and came up with this WaPo "Fact Checker Analysis." Reading through it, I'll be damned if I can find any shred of evidence or even accusation of Trump & Campaign hang done anything illegal. They just seem to be upset because of Russia, even though the Dems absolutely adored Soviet communism and Russia for 100 years. They have nothing because there is nothing.

Notice how these types of articles are absolutely devoid of anything concrete, unlike all the accusations of clear-cut and self-evident criminality of the Clinton campaign, Clinton as SOS, and the DOJ, FBI, and IRS under Obama?

That's because the Delusional Lying Left has no evidence. It's all smoke, mirrors, and accusations.

I can't wait to see the REAL criminals - these Leftist Liars - get indicted and imprisoned.

All I had to see was “San Fransisco Chronical” and I LOLed. I would expect no less an article.

let me guess, someone gave the reporter back door access to the information. Hmmm, it would have to be someone from the previous administration.

Perfectly apt political cartoon.

WAPO's Harry Litman writes:

We won't know for some time what Mueller's probe will uncover, but we already know that the Trump campaign had extensive contacts with Russians - The Washington Post has reported more than 30 - and that Trump flatly lied in claiming there were none. More damning, the president himself insisted on drafting a false account of the famous June 9, 2016, meeting between a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer and senior campaign members, including Donald Trump Jr.

Ok, someone should pay us to read what these morons write because it's truly insufferable. Look at the next sentence that follows the above:

But even if none of that were true, there are plenty of reasons ...

WAPO is owned by the CIA Kid Jeff Bezos who received an initial $600 million contract from Mommy and Daddy's best buds in the CIA for 'Cloud Services', at a time when his company had just eeked out its first profit after 17 years of operation. So nice to have limitless money injected into your startup project. Imagine Sears, Target, Ross, Fred Meyer ad infinitum would love limitless money too.

Jeffey was instructed to buy WAPO for $100+ million using the proceeds. So now WAPO and its resident moron Litman are mouthpieces of the CIA boys and gals in their corner of the Swamp.

And they want TRUMPOTUS GONE YESTERDAY because orange face thinks America's special. How dare he?

Not even close, bro. The genesis is their utter hatred for traditional Americans. Until patriots begin to understand this dynamic, they will continue to confuse cause & effect.

Porgibs like this editorial writer want the great base of normal, conventional citizens eliminated & replaced. Trump represents a threat to this plan which was fully underway. If they can remove Trump by any means possible, then they may have another chance.

The left has actually issued a declaration of war. Once these operating assumptions are in place, then it makes perfect sense that proglibs would attempt to use to corrupt and use the very constitutional procedures put in place to protect civil rights as a means to impeach and remove the president.

All's fair in love and war. However, what the author doesn't seem to realize is if you attempt to kill the king, you better be successful. Failing that, it's just a matter of time before you get rolled up in the conspiracy yourself. Too bad, so sad.

I wonder; Have the drive-bys now escalated to using superlatives in their baseless shrieking accusations of President Trump, with the silly, futile hope that THAT might cause some “evidence” to magically appear?

I often wonder what crime we committed and was being obstructed?

If I did not do anything, can I be held for obstruction for not assisting the prosecution of the non crime against me?

These people are rich...

The first option I presented is absolutely a part of the whole that you presented (with which I fully agree with, by the way, and have for a long time)

Of course, that doesn’t rule out that they are out of their minds irrational too!
