It is increasingly clear that President Donald Trump and the Republicans are engaging in a campaign to smear and discredit special prosecutor Robert Mueller. All of this is an effort to undermine an investigation into whether serious federal crimes occurred that potentially implicate individuals at the highest levels of the government, including Trump and members of his family.
The need for an independent criminal investigation is clear. Was there illegal collusion between Trump campaign officials and Russians? Has there been a cover-up that constitutes obstruction of justice? If so, who is responsible?
Contrary to the presidents assertion, this is not a partisan witch hunt. Already two individuals have plead guilty to federal crimes. George Papadopoulos plead guilty to lying to the FBI about his efforts, while a Trump campaign official, to set up meetings with Kremlin-connected sources who claimed to have damaging information about Hillary Clinton. Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn plead guilty to willfully and knowingly making false, fictitious and fraudulent statements to the FBI about communications exchanged with a Russian envoy shortly after Trump took office.
Paul Manafort, Trumps campaign manager for a time, and Rick Gates, his aide, have been indicted for the crime of conspiracy against the United States. They have been charged with operating as agents of foreign governments without registering as required by the law and laundering over $75 million in offshore accounts.

Yoga logic
Give thanks again for our founders who had enough to create this Constitution. It is only except for Trump and protect and keeps this Marxist for getting held of this nation.
Truth and facts be damned. The first sentence is all one needs to read to know this is just another BS hit piece on President Trump.
People keep telling me that LSD is not legal. I offer exhibit A as a rebuttal.
Erwin is as ugly inside as he is outside. Good friend of Hugh Hewitt’s!
When libs bring up the constitution, I can’t help but LMAO. How often did we hear them say that Obama should have absolute dictatorial power?
Indeed, if Chemerinsky is correct in his reasoning, then J. Edgar Hoover is owed rehabilitation for his investigation of Martin Luther King. Obviously, by Chemerinsky's logic, King merited relentless investigation because he was echoing Communist propaganda and had Communist support and associates with Communist loyalties.
They don’t believe it themselves, but they also believe that if they say it enough it might come true.
No one is stopping Muller. This is BS, as usual.
Chemerinsky was part of “the smart guys” segment on Hugh Hewitt’s show when I used to listen. Don’t listen any more. Erwin was always the antagonist, no matter the subject. His reasoning is so convoluted, he can look at any color and say it is the exact opposite. A rabid liberal to the nth degree.
It seems to me I remember the Dems - with a lot of help from the media - trying to smear and discredit special prosecutor Kenneth Starr.
If Papadopoulos lied to the FBI, I don’t understand why he did so. If you read his guilty plea admission, the allegation is that he tried to set up contacts with people in Russia who had opposition research on Clinton. That’s it. That’s all he did. That’s not a crime. So why would he lie about it?
Something’s not right with the Papadopoulos involvement. He also hasn’t been sentenced yet even though he entered his guilty plea many months ago.
I'm more worried about misconduct by people we don't get to elect than by the ones we do.
McCarthy is coming around.
His last article about this ended with these 3 words.
“I was wrong”
It is breathtaking the level of lying that they are doing.
Big Media wears no close. And they should be embarrassed.
A more Russian, communist sounding name than Erwin chemerinsky would be difficult to come up with.
He needs to recite the Independent Counsel clause of the Constitution so we can fully understand.
