If Papadopoulos lied to the FBI, I don’t understand why he did so. If you read his guilty plea admission, the allegation is that he tried to set up contacts with people in Russia who had opposition research on Clinton. That’s it. That’s all he did. That’s not a crime. So why would he lie about it?

Something’s not right with the Papadopoulos involvement. He also hasn’t been sentenced yet even though he entered his guilty plea many months ago.

Given the Russia frenzy that was current at the time (and which lingers on), he might have thought that he needed to cover up even legal contact with Russia, since divulging ANY contact would be used by the enemies of Trump and would trigger cries of "collusion". This guy was not a seasoned veteran of politics.
