Heather Holland, a second-grade teacher at Ikard Elementary School with the Weatherford Independent School District died over the weekend, the Weatherford Democrat reports. Holland got sick about a week ago and took medication, but delayed picking up the prescription due to the $116 copay, according to the newspaper.
By Friday night, Holland's condition worsened and she was taken to the hospital. Her husband Frank Holland told the Weatherford Democrat that she died Sunday morning.
"She loved helping people, helping the kids, and the kids loved her," Holland's husband told the Weatherford Democrat.
Charlotte LaGrone, a spokeswoman for Weatherford ISD, told news station CBS DFW that counselors are available at the school for the rest of the week to help students and school staff cope with the sudden loss. She added that custodians started deep cleaning the district's schools in December to keep students from getting sick, and that the specific campus where Holland was employed had received an additional cleaning on Friday, Feb. 2.
This year's flu season has been particularly deadly, with flu-related deaths being reported across the nation. Last month, five flu-related deaths were reported in the greater Houston area. The CDC reports the flu is widespread across America this year and possibly won't peak until March.

Flu shots are worthless. I got my free flu shot this year and still got the flu. Fortunately, I'm in the military so my Tamiflu was also free.

LOL!!! You obviously don’t know how teachers are paid in Texas. Not saying she couldn’t afford the Tamiflu, but teacher paychecks in Texas are not bloated.
You’re right. Big pharma has money in everyone’s pocket in DC.
Typically, I can manage them fairly well and I can often go weeks with barely needing an Excederin but then I will get on a roll of a week, two --where I need the RX stuff (and I only take 1/3 pills at a time).

Since oil and water don't mix, I'm stumped as to the logic of the diffusers that you have to keep filling with water. I figured the essential oil vapors can be spread through the room just as well my way.

Very true about knowing your druggist. I think all 4 of our bullies are in the reward program? haha We get a lot of our dogs scripts from our local pharmacy. Our vet is pretty good about knowing where we can get it cheaper, from her or our pharmacy [if available at our human pharmacy]....and will fill or write us a script for whichever saves us more money.

Flu is a VIRUS caused disease. AFAIK there is no medicine which works with viruses. Common cold is a virus as well and that is why no medicine works with colds.
Best way to handle flu is get bed rest, chicken soup, salt water gargles, and Benadryl to help dry out runny nose/eyes.
What works best for me is walking total of 10 miles/week. It keeps me away from heart attacks and strokes, and keeps my lungs in good shape, cured my knee and hip joint pains. I am closing in on age 80. I live near the beach and love walking on soft sandy surface and listen to crashing waves sound. Which is why I live in Florida which has the most beach miles per sq miles of state size.
I can say that could be true. I get flu shot every year (heck it is free on Medicare) and never have come down with a serious case of flu.
I was just telling my husband I wish articles like this would include if the deceased had a flu shot, or not. Seems like every article I have read about the flu this year, where somebody passed away, none of them include that info.

It really isn’t a flu. You get chills and sweats, on coming distinguished by an incessant post nasal drip. Lasts or lingers about 10-1/2 weeks. Initially appears to only last maybe 7-10 days with diminished strength. Handles by OTC and vitamins, lot of cough drops, maybe Robitussin DM or NyQuil, or an antihistamine.
2nd stage distinguished by froth in the phligm and loosing one’s breath from coughing. Pneumonia type symptoms.
If not a strong person, the weakness can allow the froth to lead to asphyxiation.
Easily seen where toddlers and elderly might not survive after about a month.
Penicillin routines might alleviate secondary symptoms, but the original comes back a month or so later.
When I take Oil of Oregano orally, which I do at the first sign of illness, I also take Kefir so the loss of beneficial bacteria doesn’t ever become an issue. In fact, my gut probably ends up in better shape than it was originally. I like LifeWay Kefir.
