California is physically beautiful. The weather there is spectacular.
Even the quality of sunlight there is different.
I was in Polar Star, and we were steaming down the Pacific Coast toward San Diego for REFTRA.
I had the opportunity to nap before watch, and in getting ready for watch you walk through the ship and decks doing an inspection before you assume OOD.
I came out on deck, and the sun was 10 degrees above the Western horizon. The rays were golden off the two foot seas, and the rays hit my face like a towel fresh out of a dryer.
It struck me, without having seen the chart, that we were likely off of SF somewhere.
Went up on the bridge to take my fix, and sure enough, we were just west of the Farallon Islands, which is due West of SF.
I lived there a long time, and I’m smart enough to know you can’t go back, but when I visit it is every bit as physically beautiful as it was when I grew up there.
It’s a hard place to leave on that basis.
I was born in San Diego........................
The left have destroyed a glorious state and many of its fine people.
