Former President George W. Bush was supportive of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program Thursday, as he told an audience at a summit in Abu Dhabi that the U.S. needs to welcome them.
Beyond that, he said at the summit hosted by the Milken Institute, a California-based economic think tank, that Americans should be thanking the illegal immigrants for doing jobs they refuse to do.
"Americans dont want to pick cotton at 105 degrees, but there are people who want put food on their familys tables and are willing to do that, he said, according to The Associated Press. "We ought to say thank you and welcome them.
Bush, who was critical of President Trumps approach to DACA, said Americas their home, referring to the programs recipients.
Trump announced in September he was ending the program with a six-month delay to allow Congress to come up with a permanent fix. That deadline of March 5 is rapidly approaching, he continues to warn lawmakers.
Bush acknowledged the U.S. immigration system is broken and explained that he tried [to fix it], but unsuccessfully.
It is important for our economy and also important for our soul that the immigration system functions well, he said.
Speaking of the U.S.s relationship with Mexico, he said its vital for our economy and for our stability. Weve got to enforce our borders and weve got to enforce our laws.
Bush invaded Iraq over 9/11 where 3,000 died.
Every year that many die due to illegal aliens and he does nothing but tell us to love them.
Let me see.
1. Lincoln.
2. Obama.
3. Bill Clinton.
4. Lyndon Johnson.
5. Jimmy Carter.
Nah, he wouldn't be on my list of top five, but he might make the top ten.
BS? Cotton is harvested with mechanical devices and has been for many decades. Furthermore, American citizens, like me, grew up doing all those jobs, and some of us, me included, still do.
I was trying to imagine how head would explode if suddenly cotton fields were filled with black workers.
My point is that there is no reason for businesses to hire illegal immigrants. If they believe current law does not allow for enough workers then work to change that. But stop whining and hiring illegals.
You are right. If immigration law is broken that law should be enforced no matter the personal circumstances of the person subject to deportation.
Good.
Worst ex-President ever. Carter is now in 3rd place.
Him and Nancy Stretch in the news this morning supporting daca and illegals.
Very telling......Yeah too bad I too supported all the bush family. now the bush girls are just good abortionists.
Yep.
Not only are they scum they are out of touch and totally disconnected from the average American. The last time the “elites” were this disconnected politically their heads became disconnected from their torsos.
Bull-Schiff — Bush-RAT!
O’bastard
Carter
Johnson
Kennedy
Clinton
I didn’t consider Bill Clinton for my list. But I think you might be right. He disgraced the presidency like no one before him.
As for Carter, I try to give him a break. I think he’s a good and honorable man, but naive, and in way over his head. Sort of like putting an earnest Sea Cadet in charge of the Fifth Fleet. Bad things are bound to happen.
Did he say it in Spanish?
Send him and all his dangerous Muslim immigrants back to Saudi Arabia or Iran! Dont let any of them back into USA.
Exactly.
Some of us were telling on Bush years ago, but were trashed for the warning. I knew how evil he was when he hid all the Clinton crimes but even I didn't foresee them becoming brothers.
Comments of a traitor.
Notice that W used the term “pick cotton”—as if any cotton picked in the US is picked by hand anymore.
What are you saying, W, that you want illegals to pick cotton by hand the way the slaves had to 150 years ago? Are you really that much of an idiot?
Again I retroactively take back the two times I voted for W for POTUS.
Bush the jackass, selling out America, while overseas with his camel jockey friends.
How is he ANY different than the Dixie Chicks?
