Former President George W. Bush was supportive of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program Thursday, as he told an audience at a summit in Abu Dhabi that the U.S. needs to “welcome” them.
Beyond that, he said at the summit hosted by the Milken Institute, a California-based economic think tank, that Americans should be thanking the illegal immigrants for doing jobs they refuse to do.
"Americans don’t want to pick cotton at 105 degrees, but there are people who want put food on their family’s tables and are willing to do that,” he said, according to The Associated Press. "We ought to say thank you and welcome them.”
Bush, who was critical of President Trump’s approach to DACA, said “America’s their home,” referring to the program’s recipients.
Trump announced in September he was ending the program with a six-month delay to allow Congress to come up with a permanent fix. That deadline of March 5 is rapidly approaching, he continues to warn lawmakers.
Bush acknowledged the U.S. immigration system is “broken” and explained that he “tried [to fix it], but unsuccessfully.”
“It is important for our economy and also important for our soul that the immigration system functions well,” he said.
Speaking of the U.S.’s relationship with Mexico, he said it’s “vital for our economy and for our stability. We’ve got to enforce our borders and we’ve got to enforce our laws.”

He and his family would be the perfect people to lead PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional) in Mexico.

It was during a 1999 interview with CNN correspondent, Tucker Carlson, when Bush decided to publicly humiliate a woman after refusing her request for a 30-day stay of execution and condemning her to death. There was public outcry to save the life of Karla Faye Tucker, who during her 14 years of imprisonment, found God, became the leader of a prison ministry, and by all outward appearances seemed rehabilitated. With incoming pleas for clemency from Pope John Paul and the world community as a whole, it was outrageous that Bush should so quickly discount world opinion and put the woman to death.**

Cotton is machine harvested in the U.S., beginning in July in south Texas and in October in more northern areas of the Belt.
