Thank you for the correction, I was referring to the work visa this man had that expired.

Green Card needs overhauling as well.

Says the lawyer trying to keep him in the country. I don’t really believe it.

...

I’m with you all the way on that one. These sob stories never tell the whole truth.

I admit I take no joy in this, but we have to get a handle on this. This guy should have seen this coming years ago, but perhaps he thought nobody would ever look for him. His mistake. He should have gotten his visa squared away.

If I were an American living in some other country permanently (like the Philippines) and my family and job were there...I would keep my visa in order, become a citizen, or accept the consequences which would be deportation (although over there I suspect you can grease a palm to get it extended)

We have to fix it. It is already far too large of an issue to relegate to back burners.

I agree with other posters who suspect there are talking points going out from the DNC to their media contacts...seems to be more of these lately.

Or perhaps there really IS a big uptick in the deportations. I agree with that in any case, though I would rather they get the real undesirables first.

Unfortunately, this guy is low-hanging fruit. Easy pickings. Won’t run because he is entrenched in the community.

He's actually been in the United States since 1999. Don't know when his work visa expired, since that information seems to be missing from the piece

At no time did the article mention what he's done for a living since 1999.

I was born and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts and it's morphed from an honest hard-working factory city into a "Kennedy Country" welfare fraud enclave with a high crime rate and a permanent dependency class.

I know this article is about Haverhill, Massachusetts, but Lawrence is just further along in the downward spiral.

The Merrimack Valley is infested with Marxist otherwise unemployable do-gooders who've enabled and encouraged the rot in order to secure a paycheck for themselves.

I'm not shedding any tears for this guy, that's for sure.

I agree with you. I am pretty sure State Dept has responsibility for monitoring all visas they issue.

Apparently, they don’t think it is important. This does not require any Congressional action, only State Dept. enforcing existing law. IMO

There was a time when immigrants added value to American society.
My great grandfather came from Vastervick, Sweden in 1902. He dug wells, laid bricks and worked in coal mines until he had enough money to send for his wife and daughter. They arrived in 1905.
He built a house mostly with his own labor in a small Iowa town where he heard other Swedes lived. The house has been remodeled a couple of times but still stands today. Their daughter was my mother’s mother.

Dad’s people came from Wales and Scotland. They first arrived in Nova Scotia sometime in the 1880s and later became American citizens in Michigan. Great Gandpa was a commercial fisherman on the Great Lakes...

...Haverhill Attorney Paul Magliochetti...said Tuesday Leonce had dealt with attorneys since immigrating to the United States in 1999, none of whom provided him with the proper assistance in becoming a legal citizen..."

So I guess Haverhill Attorney Paul Magliochetti will be filing bar complaints against the prior attorneys, and representing his client for the legal malpractice suits, right?

Yeah, I wrote it tongue in cheek. The attorney has the same last name as the two “Car Talk” brothers (defunct NPR radio show) who were also from Massachusetts. I wonder if he’s related...

I know the Car Talk guys were libs, but...I occasionally listened to them. They were pretty funny...

It was the only NPR thing I ever sullied my radio with!

Same here. They should have gone commercial. Their show could have stood on its own.

I wouldn’t disagree that happens. They are lawyers, after all, and probably low end lawyers to boot. But if it were my family and residence on the line, I wouldn’t kick that can down the road. (I don’t think we disagree on that either)
