JEFFERSON CITY Democrats made a dent in the GOP's super-majority in the Missouri House on Tuesday, swiping a Jefferson County-based district that had been held by a Republican.
Democrat Mike Revis snagged nearly 52 percent of the vote compared to Republican David Linton's 48 percent share, according to preliminary results from the Missouri Secretary of State.
According to the unofficial results, Republicans still took at least two out of four special election contests on Tuesday, winning decisively in two western Missouri districts.
In the 144th district, encompassing a patch of southeast Missouri, including Iron County and parts of Washington County, Democrat Jim Scaggs led Republican Chris Dinkins narrowly at 9:20 p.m. with 14 precincts left to report tallies.
The Democrats were elated by their flash of success, saying the victory in Jefferson County signaled more problems for the Republican brand going into the November elections.

Here’s what I’m thinking to make myself feel better:
It’s MISSOURI house election, no affect nationally, .... yet.
We don’t know the particulars, i.e., what kind of a campaign was it. Very often dims talk a lot like conservatives when they are running. We know how sneaky they are.
or the republicans didn’t realize there was an election.
That’s my rationale and I’m sticking with it.
I don’t think most people care much about special elections. A lot of normal, non political people don’t even when know they are happening.
Woah. You were the one wringing your hands saying the Dems picked up 2 seats. They didnt.
No, the GOP shouldnt have lost the seat. Yes, the Democrats are turning out in these special elections while GOPers are sitting home. It tends to happen to the party in power. The party in power sits on their laurels and the party out of power gets energized.
The next big election is PA-18. If you want to do something, donate to Rick Saccone.
Special elections are always low turnout, and their base is energized. Thats just a fact. Instead of crying, fight. Lets get the turnout for Rick Saccone in Pennsylvania.
Thanks for the info on the PA-18 race.
Are you keeping a list of these Special Elections, nationwide? If so, would you mind posting a list, for us to keep up with, too?
TIA.
Not proud to say it but i live in Jefferson County Missouri and I had no idea this election was taking place.
We went 65% for Trump.
The Rats have been keeping them low key and pushing their base out.
If we can hold PA-18 we need to rub their faces in it like theyve been doing with these random special state elections with 12.6% turnout.
There were more than 13,000 votes in District 97 in 2016.
More than 7,000 in 2014.
Just over 3,000 tonight.
GOPers arent voting in these specials.
Also, 97 isnt deep red.
The prior GOP incumbent eeked out a 51-48 win in 2012.
He did better in 2014 and was opposed only by a libertarian in 2016.
However, any district that is within 4 points in a Presidential election year is not deep anything.
This was a super low turnout election. The Libertarian in 2016 has more votes than were cast in total tonight.
The GOPers do need to wake up and vote in these specials, but dont let the media push these things as bigger than they are.
He’s such a whiner. Ignore him.
Headline is a ballsy attempt to put a positive spin on a Rats’ net election loss.
A trillion dollars in Obama stimulus when to Rat interest groups known to contribute to Democrat campaigns. We are talking about a billion dollar slush fund.
There is walking around money for generations of politicking.
Was the GOP candidate a witch, or a believer in “real rape”?
Roy Moore has not yet conceded.......his claim......voter fraud.....lets wait and see what unfolds.......to be continued........ala Wiley Coyote....seems everything the Dems do seems to blow back in their face....lets wait to see.
what unfolds
Plus its an election in February with an ice storm on the way. Governor Grietens affair (though he was a democrat at the time so it really shouldnt count against him, should it?) probably didnt help the Republican brand.
Well at least the Republicans won a couple of them.
lol. Wouldn’t put it past him, but I think he was quiet on the stupid. He lost being uninspiring.
This may be a frightening harbinger of things to come. Rats gain control of the House and the end of the Trump regnum begins. Maxine Waters will head the oversight committee.
Just to offer some perspective: The Jefferson County district has traditionally been Democrat-lots of Union there, and I would have been surprised had a Pubbie been elected.
The 144th - Republican Fitzwater was the first pubbie elected in over 60 years. A really staunch Democrat area with lots of Union supporters there too. If Pubbies hold that, it’s a big win.
Not to be complacent. Mid terms are Turn out elections. Everyone needs to GOTV.
That is such a dumb and inane comment. You are completely clueless. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.
