Were “he-said-she-said” situations really that common back then, a mile below the surface?
Please do elucidate!

50 years ago was only 1967.....
Even then the ‘open door’ policy for bosses etal wasn’t actually ‘MY DOOR IS OPEN’, it also meant If you and a subordinate were to have a one on one, best either leave your door open or at least have a witness. Couldn’t really ‘tape’ the meeting as the ‘law’ was kind of iffy when it came to wire taps and what constituted one.
PDT played that beautifully a couple of weeks ago AND the ‘other side’ proved him correct as it is the ONLY meeting he or Senior R’s have had that didn’t have ‘scores of leaks’ or misstatements.
After the ‘$hiitehole’ controversy/he said-she said travesty, PDT should have announced that ALL future meetings would be on the record -AT HIS DISCRETION and he may or may not tell you.
We have to start spinning this crap back on the Ls & RINOs etal...
Between the press and lying pols, I do NOT believe McShame is going through what he says he is AND yes the ONLY way I will believe him is when he comes out feet first, under a sheet - THEN I ‘MAY’ admit I was wrong but chances are I won’t give him the satisfaction.
I know it is wrong to wish ill on one BUT when they ‘ask for it’, it is very easy.
You're not getting my drift.
Deep mines... mine shafts a mile or more underground... hazardous environments... men stripped to their waists... and you talk about having to enact measures to avoid any appearance of impropriety?!
There is a serious disconnect here - and I'm more than willing that it might be due to my ignorance - so please enlighten me!

—yes-—and if the senior senator from Arizona stated that the sun rose in the east this morning, I would check it out before believing him-—
—yes——and the situations about which I speak were almost always about job performance-
—and an added complication entered the picture when women did start working underground. After the disciplinary meeting was over , a union steward (whose attendance was mandatory) would usually take the lady aside and explain to her that “ we can’t really do anything about this but. here is a number you can call in Denver and file a civil rights suit if you so choose”—some of them did that-—
