Early pics appeared(to me!) to show multiple tracks with opposing engines alongside one another. now see pic of jackknifed car and no apparent track to left.
Yard area accounts for slow speed - plus I guess maint warrant area.

Prayers for the injured and their families. In the 70’s and 80’s this weeks events were the norm for Amtrack. Hope this truly was an accident. If not hope we learn the truth. Could be.I put nothing past them.The freight is more than likely a long,long train and the length of the siding will dictate whether the freight goes in the hole clearing the main for the amtrak(10 to 15 coaches and baggage cars) or vice versa.

Deep State Criminals - could be. They like symbolism, and seem to have an affinity for 9 and 1. IIRC, Amtrak is very automated. Somehow, this train was misdirected onto the wrong track.

“Diversity” doesn’t always relate to race - 2 engineers and whoever schedules/monitors/switches may have “blended” the overall situation. My comment was overhead because there have been a number of cases where incompetents have been hired for who they were rather than competency/sens of responsibility - in public safety positions to boot.

The Director isnt’ the one doing the investigating. DOT, NTSB and most importantly the, FRA does all the investigating. Those folks are the ones on the ground walking the right-of-way. Directors are figure heads that talk to the cameras, when their spokespeople aren’t available or the issue is high profile.

This is like saying that murders aren’t investigated because there’s no chief of police.

I would think that one of the reason’s railroad safety is taking such a hit is because of what companies like CSX are doing. Cutting costs, by firing thousands, to boost stock prices, for more shareholder/investor profits, at the expense of the overall safety and performance of the RR and it’s customers.

About 40 yrs ago when plans were first considered to eventually replace the old Tappan Zee Bridge the possibility of building a tunnel was explored, with rail service directly from Suffern to White Plains. If Scmucky really wants a pork barrel project he can call his very own how about once and for all a crossing or 2 across the Long Island Sound? At least that could alleviate traffic in Queens and the Bronx.
