Haley slams Russia at GOP retreat

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley slammed Russia at the GOP retreat in West Virginia on Thursday, definitively telling Republican lawmakers that Moscow "is not, will not, be our friend."

"As long as their government has the values that it has, and as long as it conducts itself the way it does internationally," Haley said. Haley made it very clear that Russia meddled in the 2016 US election but also noted that "there is no reason to think the Russian interference made any difference between who won and lost."

I wonder what she’s on. As I see it, we should look at Russia’s military CAPABILITIES and trying to figure out if we can counter them (hint, there are many that we cannot)...and we should WORRY about that and RESPOND to that. Same with China, of course.

If they attack or threaten our interests (hint, a corrupt government in Ukraine is not our interest - but the Baltics are), then we should respond.

If Putin is a ‘mean guy’ towards his political adversaries, who are we to talk, considering the FISA memo. Until we actually start JAILING our criminals, we really don’t have any standing to comment on how Putin runs his government.

Stop making sense - the people here who want to exchange nukes with Russia aren’t prepared for that.

This sounds like political overkill to me.

Apparently, Nikki Haley’s new job is to reinforce the idea that Trump could never collude with the Russians because Putin is a bad person who will never be our friend.

Only problem?

A lot of us still have no idea what Putin did to “interfere” with our election.

Trump should declassify and release all of the alleged collusion documents, along with all the FISA documents and court transcripts.

So how to prove the so called “Russian interference” didn’t make any difference between who won and lost?

The Russians spent $100K on social media. Hillary literally spent 6000x that, but somehow the $100K beat her $600m? Or made more of a difference than Trump's $300m? Puh-leeze. I'm sure the KGB (and the Democratic Party) will claim that they were key players, but that's the same as the CIA claiming credit for Allende's fall. Pinochet was just completing one check box out of probably hundreds and would have gone ahead with his coup with or without CIA buy-in. If he hadn't gotten all his ducks lined up properly, the coup would have failed just like the Turkish coup and countless others (including many CIA-sponsored covert ops) have over the years.

Putin, like China does not pose some immediate military or even economic threat (which China does) - this is true.

But the desire for empire restoration and Soviet revivalism points to a major clash of visions with Russia. For the long term.

This clash in thinking is an existential threat to a US-led world order. And by that, I do not mean a world-order where the U.S. intervenes where it shouldn’t, or is the police where it shouldn’t be.

Russia fundamentally resents an America-led, America-friendly world order for no other reason except that its America at the helm and not them. Russia is also an authoritarian regime. It rejects the rule of Law as it applies to them and the world. It rejects democratic values and principles. That is what Nikki Haley is referring to.

It’s a country dissatisfied with the postwar order, embittered by the strong cohesion of Western powers in NATO, and disturbed by the Westward and NATO-ward shift of neighboring countries and former empire holdings.

Russia will do everything in its power to obstruct the sovereignty of its former Soviet satellite states and empire holdings.

Russia seeks to prevent such countries from developing into Western-friendly, democratic countries which observe the rule of law.

In the meantime Russia helps prop up rogue regimes like Iran, Cuba, Venuezeula. They have a vested interest in Assad moreso than Syria as a whole, and they also help North Korea stay afloat. Thereby sabotaging our most basic foreign interests.

“” “” The CPUSA supported H->! .”” “”

Nice to see someone mentioned it at last.
That would make a critical point in this discussion.

Thanks for your interesting Comments.

Re: “embittered by the strong cohesion of Western powers in NATO”

I don’t see the cohesion.

The UK just voted itself out of the EU. France has always been a tepid ally of the USA, except for its vital friendship from 1776 to 1782, and the Statue of Liberty. Germany wants to destroy every last vestige of nationalism in Europe, and the EU wants to terminate individual liberty and free enterprise capitalism.

For many years I have made the slightly sarcastic claim that the only two countries in the world that Europe is willing to fight are Israel and the USA!

In my opinion, the USA needs to turn totally inward for several decades. We have trillions of dollars of unfunded liabilities that we must pay. If the USA is bankrupt, we will be a completely useless friend or military ally.

We need to focus on being the most productive country in the world, and on having the highest standard of living in the world.

And we need to make it absolutely clear to every country in the world that we will kill anyone who threatens to harm the USA, or tries to disrupt our international commerce with other countries.

Moscow "is not, will not, be our friend."

Well Duh! But they aren't the ones threatening to launch nuclear missiles at us are they.

You Europeans should worry more about the Islamic invasion you welcomed.

What utter bullshit from the little Neocon wench.

Seventeen years in Afghanistan, fifteen in Iraq, Libya in the hands of multiple terrorist groups who raid into Egypt, Yemen sticking it to the Saudis, Turkey shelling US bought and paid for head chopping "freedom fighters" in Syria after those "freedom fighters" have murdered thousands of Syrian Christians for being Christian, and in addition to all that plus our own thousands of US dead and maimed, we've spent six trillion dollars on wars in the ME since 2001. The solution? Look, over there, it's Russia !!

The US is in the middle of an attempted coup by the democrat/rino machine but the right thing to do is to put the screws to Russia and see if we can't tick them off enough to lose their patience. If the US hadn't bought enough votes to put Yeltsin in for his last term we'd probably have never had Putin in charge for everyone to bitch and whine about. But did we learn to leave other countries to work out their own problems?

Oh, Hell no, there's too much to steal to leave them alone.

Bill and Hillary are pals with the Oligarchs who ran to keep from going to prison. That proves they're the good guys fleeing evil Putin, right?

Put the Hillary/Neocon "evil Russia" meme in a dress, put it in a suit, put it in a ballet dress, but it's still the same pile of lies and BS that the Deep State crowd trot out whenever they're drooling over what they can steal somewhere in the world.

The E.U. is not the same as historical Europe. Also its important to have a long term point of view.

Brexit was a wake-up call for change and reform and European self-reflection. When the 3rd royal baby is born this spring and Prince Harry marries his American bride at St. George’s at Windsor Castle, you will find there is more of an appetite in the world for age-old Western institutions such as the British Monarchy, not less. And that it has endured through far greater challenges in history than Brexit.

Trump is holding NATO to account and it is already getting its act together.

Macron has been great for France. I think that Kurz kid in Austria is good.

And indeed whats good for America is good for the world as Steve Mnuckin says. MAGA. America First.

Raahputin, you and your fellow Putinistas have banked on the destruction of America and Western Civilization. Yet you place your faith in Putin and the victory of his allied rogue dictatorships around the world.

Yet in 6-8 years, Trump will still be standing. Britain will still have its monarchy. And Europe with all its reforms will be on the path to economic and cultural renewal.

Putin and his kleptocratic system on the other hand?

Fat chance. Its already bearing the stench of rot. Soviet mold.

America and our Constitution have been through worse than even this FBI thing. And the fact the Deep State’s KGB-like behavior is being brought to light as it has only serves to show the strength of our young 250 year old country, not our weakness. This “drain the swamp” ordeal will make us better, cleaner, stronger in the long run.

Not perfect of course. But we shouldn’t be delusional Bolshevik-Marxist utopianists.

Russia’s economy has has 20 plus years to diversify and grow, and yet its still massively behind and stagnated. Vladdy Poots’ geopolitical gambles (like allying with Iran and banking on Assad) are already unravelling.

As I have said before: watch the protests in Iran closely: it’s the game changer of the decade. And a foreshadowing of more such things to come...

Russia’s next (and hopefully bloodless) revolution will take awhile longer, but the seeds of change have already been planted there too.

And as America, Europe, and the world clean up...As swamps are drained here and elsewhere, leeches like Putin will have less scum to feed on. And they need scum to survive.
