This would not be the expected bipartisan speech about infrastructure. Trump instead treated the United States Capitol like a campaign rally at a hockey rink in Wheeling....
His speech called firefighters and coast guard rescuers and Corey the welder heroic and beautiful and a great welder. He scolded the politicians in the room: These are the people we were elected to serve.
In a city where every square patch of grass is named to honor a politician, he gives politicians demeaning names and honors ordinary citizens. That, right there, is the chewy Tootsie Pop center of Trumpism.
Oh, Colt, this was WONDERFUL. I would never have seen it if you hadn’t posted, and I’m so very glad I did. It’s a great article from someone who really “gets” our president. Thank you.
Doesn’t show it’s just excerpted here, but it’s a good sized article.

A week earlier, with confession-cam candor, Trump called the Senate Minority leader Cryin Chuck Schumer. He was there to address him, Little Marco, Lyin Ted, Pocahontas and the rest.

What I'll remember is "Americans are Dreamers too," and a Korean guy holding up his crutches like a torch of freedom. Great speech, great occasion.
Sometimes in politics it is best when battle lines are drawn. November will be a clear choice between those who rescued the economy and those who stood in the way.
An excellent piece, and a great catch for posting !
Bravo, and welcome to FR :-)
But he had help from the Russians though /sarc
Yesterday I witnessed a magnificent display of the stark contrast between the principles of the “Deplorable in Chief” and the spokesman for the opposition (Joe Kennedy). The spirit of Robert Byrd (one time
Exalted Cyclops in the KKK and US Senator and democrat mentor from 1959 until his death in 2010) was on full display.

Yes, my favorite line was “Americans are Dreamers, too”. Captures the issue perfectly.

Bingo!
Did everybody notice that he did not stumble or appear to pause to look at his notes one single time during that hour long speech? His grasp of those peoples names and stories was complete, and he knew every one of them by heart.
It was a wonderful, uplifting speech, and delivered masterfully.
I sure wish someone would tell us WHAT help from Russia. It looks like it was all Donald Trump pre-election diplomacy looking to America like the wise thing it was. Did a single ruble go out buying Trump ads?
