Its an observation so strikingly true that you wonder why you didnt think of it earlier. Donald Trump, a friend said the other day, is teaching the Republican Party how to fight and how to win.
The evidence is everywhere every day, and it was on vivid display Tuesday night. The president remains in a fighting mood, determined to keep punching his way forward.
The Trump way starts with the passage of the historic tax cuts despite tiny Republican majorities in Congress and scare tactics from the left. Before passage, polls showed the public was strongly opposed but Trump pulled, pushed and bullied his party over the finish line.
The roaring results, with millions of workers already getting bonuses, pension boosts and pay hikes, vindicate his determination.
Another piece of evidence is that the government shutdown over the Dreamers was a huge defeat for Democrats, and Trump piled on the pain with a blistering ad about crimes by illegal immigrants that helped force divided Dems back to work.
The decision by the House intelligence panel to write and release its memo on possible FBI misdeeds is yet more evidence of a new fighting spirit. Even Speaker Paul Ryan, averse to conflict by temperament and training, forcefully supported the memos release, saying it was time to cleanse the FBI.

If the squishy Republicans were paying attention, he was showing them a steel (not Steele) spine, and suggested some ‘political Viagra’.
I’ve long thought that the Republicans play the game for the sake of playing the game and that the Democrats play to win.

Even Ryan looked delighted - poor, feckless McConnell started out looking like a shrinking violet (apropos for him) but did liven up a little as it went on....probably the first time in his life he was part of a winning team - make him the towel boy instead of a “leader” and he will fit just fine...
It’s not just that Trump fights back. We all complained that George W. Bush did not fight back, but the real problem was that Bush was actually one with his attackers.
cannot step away from a luxurious lifestyle to work for ‘Free’, knowing you
and your loved ones will be viciously attacked unless you love this country
and it's people.....impossible otherwise!
..and our FLotus made that 'same decision and sacrifice'
...”I still maintain that a key reason for Trump-hatred on both sides of the aisle Hes not one of us.......
I think it’s gone way beyond that as they’ve harbored and fed such utter hatred and bitterness since they lost ...and their foiled plans they wrongfully banked on,... that they can do nothing else except as they’re full of it and overflowing......THAT is what we see....
...because...bitterness, malice and resentment is an oppressive and destructive emotion ‘having its root in hate’, ...which is likened to murder. It will destroy them as we also see happening in their faces.
It took a year but Trump finally managed to tape a popsicle stick to Ryan and McConnell’s backs and turn them to into spines.
I said it all along that Trump would spin his wheels a lot his first year as he came up to speed on how things work in DC.
I think now he’s arrived, and has learned what works and what doesn’t.
