Newton, MA U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Charles E. Schumer today announced that Congressman Joe Kennedy III will deliver the Democratic response to President Donald Trumps joint address to Congress next week.
From health care to economic justice to civil rights, the Democratic agenda stands in powerful contrast to President Trump's broken promises to American families," said Congressman Kennedy. "Our vision for this union is guided by a simple belief that equality and economic dignity should be afforded to every American. I'm honored to have been chosen by Leader Pelosi and Leader Schumer to deliver our party's response."
Congressman Kennedy is a relentless fighter for working Americans, said Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. While President Trump has consistently broken his promises to the middle class, Congressman Kennedy profoundly understands the challenges facing hard-working men and women across the country. His leadership has been vital in educating a next-generation workforce, in creating good-paying manufacturing jobs and in expanding opportunities for the middle class.
Whether its the repeated attempts to dismantle our health care system, jamming through tax cuts for the largest corporations and the wealthiest or repealing protections for consumers, women and the most vulnerable Americans, President Trumps first year has been marred by his broken promises to the middle class, said Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer. In their responses to the Presidents address, Congressman Kennedy and Virginia Delegate Guzman will both do an excellent job in making clear that Democrats are laser-focused on enacting policies to benefit middle class Americans, not special interests or the wealthiest.
Currently serving his third term, Congressman Joe Kennedy III, 37, has emerged as a powerful voice for social and economic justice. Joe has championed affordable health care, vocational education, a livable minimum wage and American manufacturing. As a member of the influential House Energy & Commerce Committee, Joe has been a leader on issues that range from mental health and addiction to medical research and rising energy costs. His opposition to President Trumps health care plan garnered national attention, as have his efforts to reform this countrys badly broken mental health system. In Congress, he is a leading voice for LGBTQ equality, voting rights, civil rights and immigration reform. Prior to serving in Congress, Joe was an Assistant District Attorney in Massachusetts and a member of the Peace Corps in Latin America. He received his undergraduate degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University and his law degree from Harvard. He is married to Lauren Birchfield Kennedy, a health policy expert. They live with their children, Eleanor and James, in Newton, Massachusetts.
It could be fat, bloated Ted back from the grave and it still couldn’t top Trump tonight!
Seems the rats are still tone deaf.
Ha. Was thinking the same thing.
What a waste of oxygen!
No offense to you, but who gives a rip?
Nobody is watching Trump (from the Left), so those rebuttals will go unheard. LMAO
What happened to Maxine Waters? Did a white male push a proud black woman of color out of the way??
who cares...
Trump, if he does this for next four years, will win in a monster landslide in 2020.
I missed the silly twit in the red cowboy hat at the SOTU tonight.
You can deliver whatever address you want, I’m going to Ginsberg it.
His nicknames, chalk, cave fish, the man that sun forgot
The Democrats are showing great unity by having FIVE different SOTU rebuttals. Great optics.
Absolutely so. It occurred to me today that he's done nothing radical. If you look at the immigration pillars, for example, all have majority support.
The RATs are on the other side of that.
No offense taken.
Not sure I want to be this depressed. Had to turn off Juan Williams. Kennedy delivers an address to at least 50 people. This is not Jack or Bobby Kennedy by far.
An interesting thought: increasing the personal deduction means that those who receive the EIC on their taxes will get more money... Might change some Dems’ minds about who is really on their side, along with those who are now able to get jobs.
Good. I appreciate the thread.
He’s a horrible speaker.
I’d like to hear kennedy respond to why most of the dems sat still, unmoved, with sour puss on face as the rest of the audience clapped while Trump said not only is unemployment at 45 year lows but black and hispanic unemployment is at all time low since keeping records.
