I did not say it had anything to do with Christians. Nor did I say it had to do with ISIS.

It had to do with their national interest, and Yes that included maintaining that port, which I thought about mentioning, but didn’t.

My focus was commenting on why USA thought toppling yet another middle eastern country was desirable - ie pipeline for Saudi oil.

It wasn't for their national interest per se, except the port. It was in Iran's national interest, and they ordered Russia to bail out Assad.

The breakdown of Syria is in the United States' interest. The United States should not take Assad's side or the other side. It's in our interest to mind our own business and let them battle it out.

Well, I agree that it’s in our interest to butt out, and the point that I was trying to make was that we should not have gone in there to begin with. STUPID OBAMA POLICY.

There was no way that Russia was going to let that port go, and I doubt if Russia thought a pipeline for Saudi oil was in the interest of Russia.

If Putin jumps to do Iran’s bidding, that’s irrelevant to the above points that I was making. Are you saying that Putin was willing to let the port go?

Syria was just one more example of STUPID OBAMA POLICY. So why are you arguing-are you trying to say that policy was SMART?

You know what other announcement would spike worldwide prices? The US could announce to the world that the US Navy would no longer protect all international shipping. Only ships flying American flags would be automatically protected. Any other shipper could contract for the services provided now by the US Navy, compliments of the American taxpayer. A fee chart will be forwarded to any interested shipper.

Just so sick of the world taking advantage of the generosity of the American taxpayer. Europe is able to support its large safety net socialism by relying on the US promise of defense.

“there must be other countries with older oil fields,
that would benefit from fracking”

China is fracking like crazy, without boasting about it. And when they do it, they won’t care the least about the screams of greenies, malthusian peak-oilers, and oil princelings.

Rocky,

A lot of people don't understand that fracking old oil fields is done every where in the world.

The advantage the USA has is that we have significant “tight shale” fields that could not be profitably drilled in the past.

I actually have no idea how much “tight shale” exists in other countries, or why it is not being fracked.

Actually, US oil prices would plunge, most domestic producers would be forced out of business and then the price would rise to the world market price.
