Well, if youre a red state Democrat, I just dont get how you can give Shutdown Chuck Schumer a high-five, or whatever was captured on C-Span after the cloture vote to ban abortion after 20 weeks. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) voted with her Democratic colleagues to block the legislation (via Politico):
The Senate on Monday blocked a bill, backed by President Donald Trump, to ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
The procedural vote, designed to put pressure on red-state Democrats who are up for reelection this fall, fell significantly short of the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster.
The White House expressed strong support for the measure earlier Monday, saying it would help to facilitate the culture of life to which our nation aspires. During the 2016 election, Trump said he would sign a 20-week abortion ban if it made it to his desk one of several key reasons anti-abortion groups reversed course to back his campaign.
The Senate voted 51-46 against advancing the bill. Democrats Joe Manchin, Joe Donnelly and Bob Casey broke with others in their party to vote to advance the bill. Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski joined with the remaining Democrats present to block the measure.
Well, for starters, the legislation is not radical. To take a page from liberals, lets cite Europe, where most European countries, even those with well-established left wing politics, ban abortion after 20 weeks. In some nations, its 12 weeks. Also, almost everyone is against late-term abortion. Solid majorities, especially women, also support a 20-week ban.

This is a weird headline that doesn't acknowledge a majority of the Senate voted for a popular bill that was blocked by the minority party.

So, lets get to this little run-in between Heitkamp and Schumer, they gave each other high-fives during the vote? This is rather unseemly and a bit odd, given that a) this is an abortion bill; and b) Schumer placed Heitkamp and every other red state Democrat in political peril with the ill-executed government shutdown over illegal aliens. The Democratic Party decided to place the needs of illegals over citizens. Thats not palatable in states, where Trump wonlike North Dakota. So, will this play a role for Heitkamp, who won her 2012 race by less than 3,000 votes? Its hard to say. Rob Port, a North Dakota-based blogger, has more:
Chris Berg @chrisbergPOVNOW
Senator Heidi Heitkamp High-Fives Sen Chuck Schumer after she votes NO on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act Do you feel this NO vote represents the people of North Dakota?
Will this hurt Heitkamp? Its hard to say. On one hand, North Dakota is traditionally thought of as a pro-life state. On the other hand, when pro-life issues have been put on the ballot in recent years they havent done very well.
Perhaps Heitkamp thinks North Dakotans are on her side of this issue. Or, at least, ambivalent enough about it that it wont sway their vote in the Senate race.
So, its possible that this is swept under the rug and forgotten unless we let it. Im sorry; giving each other high-fives after killing an abortion bill that would have banned late-term abortion is appalling. Its a popular bill. The majority of Americans supports it. This was an ugly day in the Senate.
I think a similar abortion bill was defeated in ND the year Heidi was elected
A comment made on another post by gov-bean-counter says it all.
You can’t fix stupid, but you sure can vote it out of office.
C’mon, SD, jettison this vulture.
C’mon America, get rid of them all. If a human being can’t vote to limit abortion on otherwise viable babies, they are mentally deficient and need to be treated as the retards they are.
To clarify my last remark, liberals are self-inflicted retards
The Demoncrats sure seem to enjoy killing babies.
Manchin is running scared. Don't think this means he's in any way pro-life.
Libtards = the party of slavery and legalized murder.
They should be far from proud and giving high-fives......!
If I were these folks, I would get down on my knees every night and pray there won’t be a judgement day when all these aborted babies will face their killers.
This is sick.I saw the picture on twitter.
Abortion on-demand laws:
Greece: 12 weeks
Austria: 12 weeks
Germany: 12 weeks
France: 12 weeks
Italy: 12 weeks
Spain: 14 weeks
South Korea: illegal
Ireland: illegal
Poland: illegal
Sweden:18 weeks
Norway: 12 weeks
Denmark: 12 wks
Dems oppose 20 weeks. Who is extreme?
as former NoDak, she is toast.
WherebwasbDoug Jones??
He absolutely assured Alabamians whbwas not for late term abortions.
Maybe Heidi can tell me why anyone at all should be convicted of murder, in light of her callousness in the face of killing the most innocent of human beings.
Don’t choke on your lobster tonight, Heidi.

Heitkamp was also on C-Span today self-righteously haranguing the Secretary of the Treasury for not having a plan at hand to save somebody or other’s pension plans - how do such duds get elected to public office???.....
abortion on otherwise viable babies,
= = =
Hey, they might grow up to vote Republican. Can’t take the chance. 50-50 on the average, but probably more Republican.
ON the other hand CACA/immigrants will vote Dem, most assured.
Heidi Does Lobster?
Isn’t ND a pro-life state? People there must be too uninformed to know how their senator votes.
People in AL may be grossly uninformed about their new senator.
Do you think she won because of her cute name “Heidi”? People in ND must cheer abortions privately even if they don’t procure that many of them personally.
