I suppose you could re-frame drug dealers as “entrepreneurs” but I’m not sure it adds a lot to the public discourse. At this point it’s tiresome to point out that Brooks is deliberately conflating illegal immigrants with the legal ones, who are the ones to suffer disproportionately by that conflation. The point of having an immigration policy is to control immigration, not ban it, and it is an absolutely legitimate root function of government. The sort of misdirection Brooks is foisting off as analysis does nothing to shed light on the problem, only obscure it, and that is deliberate.
